TOWSON, Md. — A Barbershop quartet featuring two Baltimore County Public School teachers became the first female quartet to win the Barbershop Harmony Society’s International Quartet Contest in the organization’s 88-year history. GQ claimed the championship on July 4 in St. Louis during the Barbershop Harmony Society's 2026 International Convention, beating 51 other quartets from around the world.

Maryland State Police helicopters rescued six people in three separate hoist operations across the state over the Fourth of July weekend, including stranded jet skiers on the Eastern Shore, tubers trapped in Baltimore County and an injured visitor at Swallow Falls State Park. The rescues took place between July 3 and July 5 in Talbot, Baltimore and Garrett counties, according to the Maryland State Police Aviation Command.

Big sinkhole closes part of road in Perry Hall

PERRY HALL, Md. — Part of Cowenton Avenue in Perry Hall is closed as crews work to fix a massive sinkhole. The White Marsh Volunteer Fire Company posted about the issue and said the road is closed between Panorama Drive and East Joppa Road. The Baltimore County Fire Department is on the scene and at this time we don't have a timeline for when it will be fixed.
