How Simi Got Her Groom Back by Sonali Dev Narrator: Soneela Nankani, Natasha Chandel Published by Brilliance Audio on March 3, 2026 Genres: Contemporary Romance Length: 11 hours, 25 minute Format: Audiobook Source: NetGalley Goodreads Amazon, Audible Two sisters. One fake marriage. Zero chance of keeping the truth hidden.
How Simi Got Her Groom Back
In HOW SIMI GOT HER GROOM BACK, Sonali Dev uses a cute and clever title to draw us in and make the book appear to be a delicious rom-com. It is certainly that, but like many wonderfully written novels in that genre, it's so much more than "just" a romantic comedy. While we read about Simi and her sister, Rupi, we learn about their tragic childhood and sisterly bond, human trafficking, the difficulties of immigration, the perils of life in India, and the wonders of a loving family.
HOW SIMI GOT HER GROOM BACK
Exploring all kinds of love and domestic drama, this genre-defying high-wire act is one to savor. The healing power of family and romantic love vie for center stage in Dev’s captivating dramedy. Simi and Rupi Naik are estranged sisters, Indian immigrants to the U.S. who find love and salvation through a dramatic sacrifice.
There's Something About Mira
One might be tempted to look at the cover of THERE’S SOMETHING ABOUT MIRA and think that Sonali Dev's latest novel is a rom-com. While there is plenty of romance in this very touching story that spans generations, states, continents, cultures and social status, there are also quite a few situations that force us to examine our own prejudices and misconceptions. Even in how we express ourselves, we often reveal our inner, often very unintentional microaggressions.

Joyful Reads from July 2022
Joy Holden Turn the Page Hello! I’m Joy, and I love to read. I consider it my greatest talent and favorite hobby. Another one of my preferred pastimes is recommending reads to anyone who is the least bit curious. Seriously. I am always volunteering book recs to people near me, whether they ask or not. I thought it would be fun to bring this passion to Baton Rouge Parents Magazine. I will share with you every book I read month by month and what I think about them.
Priscilla Oliveras’ “West Side Love Story” Is a Heartwarming Tale of Star-Crossed Lovers
One of my favorite things about a romance is the yearning. The delicious sparking connection, between two people, that comes with a deep knowing that they are exactly right for each other. This layered over an awareness that something larger than themselves stands in their way; the strength of their attraction at odds with the very existence of the world as they know it. It’s the heart of every great romantic journey, crossing that distance, reconciling it.

Book Review: ‘Purple Lotus’ by Veena Rao
3 min read There are some books that are easy to finish in one sitting. Then there are others that take a bit of time to read through. Veena Rao’s “Purple Lotus” belongs to the latter category – not because of its lack of writing prowess (it has great strength in this regard) but more so because of the themes of isolation, abandonment, abuse and domestic violence that it tackles head-on and unflinchingly so.
Good reads at Waco libraries: October 2021
Good reads at Waco libraries: October 2021 FICTION The Jigsaw Man By Nadine Matheson On her first day back on the job, Detective Inspector Anjelica Huntley is called to a gruesome crime scene. The crime eerily resembles those of the notorious Jigsaw Man, a diabolical serial killer Huntley put away two years ago. As Huntley and her team race to find the perpetrator, the Jigsaw Man begins a dangerous game with his copycat that will result in more than one casualty.
RECIPE FOR PERSUASION
Soneela Nankani returns to narrate the second installment in the Raje family series, loosely based on Jane Austen's popular novels. This retelling of PERSUASION focuses on Ashna Raje, who is struggling to keep her late father's Indian restaurant afloat. When her cousin offers her a spot on a new cooking show, Ashna agrees, hoping the prize money will save her. What she doesn't know is that she'll be partnered with Rico Silva, her first love, whom she hasn't seen since high school.
Tif Marcelo’s Romance “It Takes Heart” Also Has Plenty of Soul
I must start with the admission that stories about second chances at love, especially second chances at first love, are my catnip. It’s my very favorite Romance genre trope. Assuaging the pain of losing the one who got away is the perfect redemptive metaphor for getting a redo on life’s worst mistakes and missteps. Here, the trope says, you can have another chance to be the person you needed to be to hold on to a love that defined you.
‘Incense and Sensibility’: A Romance Novel Tackling Racism, Trauma and Mental Health

Book Review: ‘Incense and Sensibility’ by Sonali Dev
3 min read First, a confession: There is nothing I love more than a good Bollywood love story. Elaborate costumes, opulent estates, and of course, two charming individuals overcoming the odds to follow their hearts and be together. It’s a fine recipe for film and it gets me every time. I never thought it could be recreated in a novel until I read “Incense and Sensibility” by Sonali Dev.

8 Books by Black Authors to Have in Your Home
3 min read This past year, we, as parents, have been challenged to ask ourselves how we can raise the next generation to be better. I know during my upbringing, I was not raised with a diverse bookshelf. The majority of the books I read had white protagonists and I rarely saw people of color as the main characters. I think this had more to do with what was available to us versus what my parents chose to bring into the home.

Book Review: ‘Small, Broke, and Kind of Dirty’ by Hana Shafi
3 min read I wasn’t small, broke, and kind of dirty until last year when I moved to NYC. Before my move, I was simply small—and broke only half of the time. After moving, I am still small, broke, and undeniably dirty—pretty much all of the time. But this isn’t a public service announcement to New Yorkers to clean up the city. Grief and Loss in 'Wave' by Sonali Deraniyagala
3 min read *Content Note: depression, tsunami, death, suicide On December 26, 2004, my family was getting ready to spend a few nights at the Gold Coast Resort in Weligama, Sri Lanka. As if a sign from above, the trip was cancelled due to a last-minute invitation to a Christmas dinner that could not be missed. Almost every Sri Lankan has a similar story where they just narrowly missed confronting chaos in the form of angry ocean waves on that fateful Boxing Day.
Book Review: 'American as Paneer Pie' by Supriya Kelkar
3 min read Tucked away in a corner of Edison, NJ, Papa Pancho Pizza struck gold with locals over the idea of Indian-izing pizza. At first glance, their menu might seem pizza-re (laugh with me please) for the average pizza monger, but upon second glance any lactose tolerant South Asian American would fall in love with it for purely one reason: they put paneer on their pizza pies. It is no wonder that when I saw the book “American as Paneer Pie” by Supriya Kelkar I had to read it.
Author Interview: Adiba Jaigirdar of ‘The Henna Wars’
4 min read Adiba Jaigirdar, the author of “The Henna Wars,” always knew she wanted to write. Either professionally or as a hobby, she wasn’t sure. But of writing itself? She was absolutely sure. “I used to live with my grandmother in Bangladesh and I had an entire cabinet of books. Apparently, she would go tell every member of my large family that ‘my granddaughter has an entire cabinet of books.
