Estimating bilateral hand kinetics from upper-limb kinematics in sprint front crawl: a subject-wise validation of an artificial neural network
Abstract Objective: Hand force contributes substantially to front crawl performance, but measuring it requires hand-worn hardware. We tested whether an artificial neural network driven only by three-dimensional upper-limb kinematics can reconstruct bilateral hand kinetics recorded by a hand-force device, and at which level of the signal (waveform, discrete descriptors, between-swimmer and inter-limb differences) the estimates agree.
Neurovascular-immune-clearance remodeling in brain aging
Abstract Brain aging involves concurrent changes in cerebral vessels, immune regulation, and waste clearance, yet these processes are often studied separately. This fragmented approach limits understanding of how dysfunction in one system influences the others and contributes to age-related neurological disorders.
Sports-team participation and risk behaviors among US high school students: behavior-specific and sex-heterogeneous associations in the national YRBS, 2011–2023
Abstract Sports-team participation is often regarded as a favorable adolescent context, but whether its associations are consistent across distinct risk behaviors and across sex remains unresolved. We conducted a repeated cross-sectional analysis of seven U. S. National Youth Risk Behavior Survey cycles (2011–2023; 110,409 records) using survey-weighted regression and marginal standardization.

Global trends, research hotspots, and clinical evidence mapping of music therapy interventions for cognitive impairment: a bibliometric and visualization analysis from 2006 to 2026
Abstract Background: Cognitive impairment is an important public health issue in ageing societies. Music therapy, as a safe and accessible non-pharmacological intervention, has been increasingly used in the management of cognitive impairment. However, the overall research pattern, evolution of research hotspots, and features of clinical evidence in this field have not been systematically reviewed.
Prediction error-related activity predicts orbitofrontal reorganization linked to behavioral policy adjustment
Cognitive flexibility requires rapid updating of internal representations when action–outcome contingencies change. Yet how feedback on a single trial reshapes the distributed activity patterns that implement these internal representations remains poorly understood.
Geometric origin of dynamical quantum phase transitions in coherent Gibbs states of the XY model
To uncover the mechanism behind dynamical quantum phase transitions (DQPTs), we employ initial-state engineering by tuning the effective inverse temperature β of the coherent Gibbs state in the one-dimensional XY model. We find that DQPTs arising from interphase quenches are topologically protected, originating from the topological mismatch between the initial state and the postquench Hamiltonian, whereas those triggered by intraphase quenches are topologically independent.
Environmental exposures and intergenerational cardiovascular risk: epigenetic reprogramming via parental exercise
Abstract Cardiovascular disease (CVD) remains a predominant cause of global mortality. The spectrum of traditional risk factors is rapidly expanding, largely driven by the modern cardiovascular exposome. This comprehensive exposome encompasses environmental hazards, sedentary lifestyles, and severe psychosocial stress. Clinical management has evolved toward an integrated system to counteract these threats, yet traditional strategies primarily target the middle and late stages of pathogenesis.

Methods: Here, we performed single-cell transcriptomic profiling of enriched peripheral blood-derived γδ T cells from healthy donors and patients with psoriasis.
Monocyte TLR2/4 as predictive biomarkers for progression from dengue warning signs to severe disease
Abstract Background: The World Health Organization (WHO) classification system, comprising dengue fever (DF), dengue with warning signs (DWS), and severe dengue (SD), has been widely adopted globally; however, clinical management remains challenging. Current warning sign criteria lack specificity, frequently failing to distinguish patients progressing to severe disease from those with transient illness, thereby contributing to delayed interventions and missed therapeutic windows.
Brain imaging-derived phenotypes influence risk of bipolar disorder: comprehensive exposome-wide association and wide-angled genetic analyses
Background Despite many reported imaging markers for bipolar disorder (BD), systematic assessment across diverse brain imaging-derived phenotypes (IDPs) is lacking. We used epidemiological and genetic analyses to progress from association to causality and identify candidate biomarkers and potential pathways of BD. Methods We conducted an Exposome-Wide Association Study (ExWAS) in 35,680 UK Biobank participants to assess associations of 686 brain IDPs with BD.

All-optical bistability based on coupled epsilon-near-zero Tamm states
Optical bistability in epsilon-near-zero (ENZ) materials holds promise for all-optical switching but is typically restricted to TM-polarized light at oblique incidence, with high-intensity damping often overlooked. Here, by exploiting Tamm states at a photonic-crystal–ENZ interface, we demonstrate optical bistability over a broad range of incident angles for both polarizations.

Chronic high-altitude exposure is associated with an internally-directed perceptual shift: differential links with attention networks and autonomic regulation
Abstract Background: High-altitude environments impose unique physiological and cognitive demands that may reorganize brain–body communication. Our study investigates whether chronic high-altitude exposure is associated with a shift in perceptual priority toward internally-directed processing, rather than merely modifying external processing speed or accuracy.
Editorial: Advances in perceptual learning: new directions, techniques, and applications
For decades, the field of visual perceptual learning (VPL) has been shaped by a foundational puzzle, that is, improvements acquired through practice often fail to transfer even to slightly altered stimulus features or shifted retinal locations ().
