Sediment‑associated processes dominate spatial variation in stream ecosystem respiration
Abstract Hyporheic zones (HZ) can contribute substantially to total stream ecosystem respiration (ERtot). HZ-focused process-based models may, therefore, effectively predict ERtot across sites, yet this remains untested under variable environmental conditions. Here, we evaluate whether spatial variation in HZ respiration predicted via a process-based model explains spatial variation in field-estimates of ERtot across 33 sites in the Yakima River basin in Washington State, USA.
Neuronal lipid droplets play a conserved and sex-biased role in maintaining whole-body energy homeostasis

Abstract Lipids are essential for neuron development and physiology1,2,3. Yet, the central hubs that coordinate lipid supply and demand in neurons remain unclear4. Here we show the presence and functional significance of neuronal lipid droplets (nLDs) in vivo using invertebrate and vertebrate models. We validate5 the presence of nLDs in vivo and demonstrate that triglyceride metabolism enzymes and LD-associated proteins control nLD formation through both canonical and recently discovered pathways6.

ABHD6 loss-of-function in mesoaccumbens postsynaptic but not presynaptic neurons prevents diet-induced obesity in male mice - Nature Communications
Abstract α/β-hydrolase domain 6 (ABHD6) is a lipase linked to physiological functions affecting energy metabolism. Brain ABHD6 degrades 2-arachidonoylglycerol and thereby modifies cannabinoid receptor signalling. However, its functional role within mesoaccumbens circuitry critical for motivated behaviour and considerably modulated by endocannabinoids was unknown.

Prediction of gastrointestinal functional state based on myoelectric recordings utilizing a deep neural network architecture
PLOS ONE, Jul 2023 Functional and motility-related gastrointestinal (GI) disorders affect nearly 40% percent of the population. Disturbances of GI myoelectric activity have been proposed to play a significant role in these disorders. A significant barrier to usage of these signals in diagnosis and treatment is the lack of consistent relationships between GI myoelectric features and function.
