Daniel Baumann is first Stephen W Hawking Professor of Cosmology

Daniel Baumann has been appointed as the inaugural Stephen W Hawking Professor of Cosmology at the University of Cambridge. Professor Baumann will be the first person to hold the new Chair, which was established with the generous support of the Avery-Tsui Foundation. The Chair honours the unique legacy of Stephen Hawking, who was a member of the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics (DAMTP) at Cambridge for 40 years.

First A-level results celebrated at new Cambridge Maths School

Students at Cambridge Maths School celebrated their A-level results today – the first cohort to study at the new specialist sixth form college. The state-funded school, run by the Eastern Learning Alliance, was developed in association with the University of Cambridge and opened in September 2023 with a focus on pioneering learning and increasing diversity in the field of maths. In total, 43 students received their A-level results today, with more than half of the grades (53%) awarded at A*.
