Sens. Merkley and Daines: Our bipartisan plan would reform the U.S. Senate (washingtonpost.com) Sens. Merkley and Daines: Our bipartisan plan would reform the U.S. Senate By Jeff Merkley; Steve Daines 2026100811410400 Our country faces massive challenges, but getting solutions through the U.S. Senate is too often like walking through tar. Obstruction, dysfunction and even government shutdowns have become the norm. Senators on both sides of the aisle have had enough.
Guest opinion: Montana energy is back and better than ever
Montana is famous for world-class fly fishing, and some of America’s greatest national parks. But Montana is also rich in natural resources. Our energy sector provides thousands of jobs and contributes millions to our economy, which is why bolstering made-in-Montana energy has been a priority of mine. As I reflect on my tenure in the Senate, I believe we’ve made substantial progress in unleashing the full power of Montana energy.

Thanks to Trump, we’re protecting Montana’s mines
Montana’s mining industry is critically important to not only our state but the country. Hard rock mining for critical minerals like copper, platinum, palladium, and silver provides more than 18,000 good-paying jobs for Montanans, adds nearly $430 million to the state’s economy and provides an essential tax base for our local communities.

The future of made-in-Montana energy
Montana’s energy industry is finally recovering from four years of relentless attacks by the Biden administration and its leftist environmental allies. It seemed like every day the Biden administration brought a new rule or regulation meant to stifle growth and production. Biden’s EPA administrator even accused Montanans of “cheating the system.” All of this caused challenges up and down the supply chain and put Montana jobs in jeopardy.

America's national parks are at a crossroads. Here's how Congress can protect them Original
Video NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles! From Acadia’s rocky Atlantic coastline to Glacier’s snowcapped valleys, our national parks are America’s crown jewels, admired at home and abroad. Our parks represent more than natural beauty, however. They embody our history, our freedoms and our future. It's our responsibility to ensure they remain a critical part of these shared values.
Protecting national parks for generations to come
While visits to our national parks are at an all-time high, the parks and their infrastructure are crumbling. Bridges and roads are in disrepair. Housing and wastewater infrastructure are unsustainable. In our own Yellowstone and Glacier national parks the Lewis River Bridge, Old Faithful to West Thumb, Northeast Entrance Road, and Going-to-the-Sun Road are just some of the roads facing the need for ongoing repair.

Big Beautiful Bill is a win for Montana
President Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill is a tremendous win for Montana. It will spur economic growth, strengthen border security as well as expand Montana’s energy sector and provide much-needed funding for our military. And thanks to the diligent work of the entire Montana congressional delegation, we defeated attempts to sell our public lands.
Opinion | A Peace Deal for Armenia and Azerbaijan
President Trump is on the cusp of bringing about a peace deal in the South Caucasus between Armenia and Azerbaijan. This would be a remarkable achievement—another step toward stability that advances regional and international peace as well as economic gains that extend far beyond the countries involved. Once parts of the Soviet Union, Armenia and Azerbaijan have been locked in a state of low-grade conflict with sporadic bouts of major violence since the late 1980s.

Guest Editorial: Biden-Harris Energy, Natural Resources, Mining Policies Threaten our Montana Way of Life
Few decisions made in Washington impact Montanans more than those made about our nation's natural resources. Unfortunately, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris' pursuit of radical environmentalism and a liberal climate change agenda is shutting down our state's energy and mining and threatening our Montana way of life. When it comes to mining, look no further than the 700 hard working miners laid off from Montana's own Stillwater Mine near Columbus this fall. Stillwater is a great employer for our state.

Sen. Steve Daines: Biden works to address dire crisis, but it’s not the southern border
From crushing inflation to the dangers of the wide-open southern border, Montana families are rightfully concerned with the direction of our country. In fact, the southern border now tops the list of concerns for Americans with 78% considering it a national crisis. Well, President Joe Biden has made his priorities clear, but they don’t reflect what’s important to Montanans’ or the American people for that matter. Quote ...
Montana’s public lands should be run by Montanans
As a fifth-generation Montanan, I have fond memories with my Grandpa Daines of learning how to fish and hunt north of Big Timber, and my goal is to pass these traditions on to my own children and grandchildren. There is no better way to experience Montana than backpacking, hunting, hiking or fishing. I share this passion with many Montanans, which is why improving access to our public lands is such a high priority.

Biden’s climate agenda creates energy poverty in tribal nations
The White House is hosting its Tribal Nations Summit this week, and it’s important to note that the administration’s climate policy is bankrupting the tribes it claims to help. The president is sure to promise, as he has at previous summits, that his administration “will defend tribal sovereignty, self-government, and self-determination and will support tribal economies.” Unfortunately, the administration’s policies do the opposite.

Southern border is a national security risk
Montana is a northern border state with a southern border crisis. After visiting the southern border this fall, my third trip in five years, I can say with certainty that the catastrophe at our southern border is now a serious threat to our national security and the result of the failed policies of President Joe Biden and congressional Democrats. The facts are frightening. The State Department designates four countries as state sponsors of terrorism: Cuba, Iran, North Korea and Syria.

Canary in a coal mine
Over the past two years, Montanans watched the President’s attack on oil, coal and natural gas bring our nation to the brink of an all-out energy emergency. Gas prices rose to more than $5 a gallon and many Montanans are worried about how to heat their homes without breaking the bank. We aren’t the only country grappling with the effects of a leader who is unrealistic about our nation’s domestic energy needs.
