A week and a half into the 2026 spring turkey season, Bobby J. McNitt, 43, of Altmar, pulled a U-turn while driving in Williamstown after he spotted a gobbler in a nearby field. McNitt stopped in the middle of the road on May 10, then poked a shotgun out of his car window and took a shot at the bird. But his target wasn’t a real turkey. It was robotic decoy placed there by state Department of Environmental Conservation police officers to snare potential poachers.
