Social media spreads news faster than ever but is a huge challenge to accuracy. It has proven the truth in the saying, "A lie can travel around the world and back again while the truth is lacing up its boots."

Sparingly. Keep it brief and please be patient regarding response time.

Why did you become a journalist?
I wanted to be a writer from the time I entered elementary school. I became a journalist because I recognized that blogging was the perfect format for the way my mind works and my writing style. I also couldn’t stand not knowing more about some subjects. I craved the truth.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
I'm proud of all the work I've done covering crime and also the tie-in books I wrote for "Better Call Saul."
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
No matter what any hard-bitten old editor says, good writing matters. You can be the most dogged investigator ever, you can have an undeniable knack for finding great stories, but none of that matters as much as it should if you don’t polish your prose.
What's the worst pitch you ever got?
I don't remember the specifics but it had to do with passing gas.
What's your favorite drink?
Jack and coke.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
On a trail in the woods or the gym.

The New Yorker
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
The most common misconception readers have about every beat is that the person writing about it is an expert. Sometimes true, usually not.
