The Wall Street Journalreports that major employers are chasing data scientists and experts in machine learning with hefty six-figure salaries. Netflix recently caused a social media stir, for example, when it advertised a $900,000 a year position for its machine-learning platform.

Back in 2019, the US homeless population jumped 2.7% from the previous year, the highest mark on record to date. This year, that mark will be obliterated, reports the Wall Street Journal. Its investigation projects an increase of 11%. Based on a survey of data from groups that help the homeless across the US, the newspaper pegs the total number at 577,000. An official estimate from the government, meant to represent a single night of homelessness in the nation, will be released later this year.

The dawn of easy self-publishing has been great for select independent authors, but colliding with the explosion of AI-aided (and AI-created) writing has resulted in a new set of problems—like the one encountered by author Jane Friedman, when she learned there were several books on Amazon under her name that she didn't write. Turns out they were AI-generated, and someone—a "huckster," Friedman wrote—simply appropriated a known author's name as a way to turn a quick profit.
