@alexheard @mikedolanindc I think Thurber would welcome heavy editing when necessary. As do I. But I want a writer to sound like the writer, not me. Thurber the cartoonist captured the writer's struggle here:

@mikedolanindc @alexheard True. Sometimes an editor needs to change those too. But an editor can revise/tighten and still let loose the writer's voice by paying attention to rhythm and vocabulary. As Thurber said, "How can I help this writer to say it better in his own style?"
