So much news, all the time, everywhere. So much news and, dare I say, "news."
What does it mean to be a journalist?
Journalists work to capture moments in time, public opinions, trends, and entire eras of human history (in their own unique way.)
What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?
What's your favorite social network?
Instagram by far. I'm a visual personal. But writers are supposed to love Twitter (I'm not there yet.)
Who do you wish followed you?
Anthony Bourdain (RIP) But I think I'd go mute if Ina Garten threw me a follow.
Why did you become a journalist?
I love to write, learn, and meet interesting people.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
I did! I was a "staff writer" and covered riveting things like the upcoming Homecoming bonfire.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
As of right now, I'm most proud of my op-ed on huitlacoche for Eater. It was informative, personal, and just controversial enough.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
You have to be curious about everything, observe everything, and write everything down. You never know what will inspire your next pitch.
What's your favorite drink?
Black coffee and, yes, I need to drink more water.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
In the kitchen cooking
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
That food isn't important or doesn't say much about the times we're living in.
