Discovering data-driven microbial growth models with symbolic regression
1 INTRODUCTION Microbial growth is a key process in the ecology and evolution of microbes. For instance, understanding it quantitatively is essential for public health in the face of rising antibiotic resistances in human pathogens (Antimicrobial Resistance Collaborators, 2022; Wong, 2024), and for various biotechnology applications (Lässig et al., 2023; Yeoman et al., 2020).
Data-driven symbolic regression reveals microbial growth laws
Abstract Microbial growth is intimately dependent on the resources that cells find in their environment. While resource consumption in simple systems is well understood in theory, connecting mathematical models with empirical observations in more complex environments remains difficult. To address this, we measure bacterial growth across various concentrations of a complex growth medium and analyse the data with the assumption that populations consume resources at a constant rate.
A pH-responsive single-atom nanozyme for photothermal-augmented nanocatalytic tumor therapy
The tumor microenvironment (TME) is widely recognized for its distinctive characteristics, which are closely associated with tumoral behavior [1], [2], [3], [4], [5]. Based on the physiological conditions of the TME, many effective therapeutic strategies have been reported using TME-responsive nanoplatforms [6], [7], [8], [9], [10].
An Effective Selection of Memory Technologies for TCAM to Improve the Search Operations: Demonstration of Memory Efficiency in SDN Recovery
1. Introduction TCAM (Ternary Content-Addressable Memory) is a type of memory used in digital circuits and network devices for high-speed data searches. TCAM is designed to perform content-based addressing, allowing for rapid and parallel searching of data. TCAM cells are made up of three states, often represented as “0”, “1”, and “X” (don’t care).

Distribution of mutation rates challenges evolutionary predictability
Abstract Natural selection is commonly assumed to act on extensive standing genetic variation. Yet, accumulating evidence highlights the role of mutational processes creating this genetic variation: to become evolutionarily successful, adaptive mutants must not only reach fixation, but also emerge in the first place, i.e. have a high enough mutation rate.

Clinical Characteristics, Metabolic Parameters, and Risk Factors for Suicide Attempts Vary with Untreated Major Depressive Disorder Duration
Suicidal attempts (SAs) are common in major depressive disorder (MDD). However, only few studies have so far assessed how risk factors for SAs in patients with MDD might be related to the duration of untreated illness (DUI). We interviewed 1,718 drug-naive outpatients with MDD with first-episode SAs and divided them into groups that had and had not attempted suicide. DUI was used as an additional grouping criterion.
Crash Recovery Techniques for Flash Storage Devices Leveraging Flash Translation Layer: A Review
1. Introduction Flash storage devices are electronic devices that use nonvolatile flash memory to store data. They are often used as an alternative to traditional hard disk drives (HDDs) because they are more durable, lighter, and faster. There are several types of flash storage devices, including: USB flash drives: small, portable devices that can be plugged into a computer’s USB port to transfer data.

The interplay between vapour, liquid, and solid phases in laser powder bed fusion - Nature Communications
Abstract The capability of producing complex, high performance metal parts on demand has established laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) as a promising additive manufacturing technology, yet deeper understanding of the laser-material interaction is crucial to exploit the potential of the process. By simultaneous in-situ synchrotron x-ray and schlieren imaging, we probe directly the interconnected fluid dynamics of the vapour jet formed by the laser and the depression it produces in the melt pool.

Efficacy of utidelone plus capecitabine versus capecitabine for heavily pretreated, anthracycline- and taxane-refractory metastatic breast cancer: final analysis of overall survival in a phase 3 randomised controlled trial
Highlights • The phase 3 study evaluated utidelone plus CAP versus CAP alone in patients with anthracycline- and taxane-refractory MBC. • In this final analysis of OS, utidelone plus CAP significantly improved OS compared with CAP alone. • No significant differences were observed in the safety profiles of the treatment groups. • Of note, utidelone caused only mild myelosuppression and no significant hepatic toxicity.

While Waste Wizard focuses on solutions for residents receiving curbside collection, the basic sorting information is also applicable to those without curbside service, who should continue to follow their established building's set out protocol. Remember, solutions may exist outside of City-run programs. Donation is one example. Should the item you need to dispose of be in suitable condition to donate for reuse, please consult the City's online ReUseIt guide.
