5 Reasons Boomers Think Gen-Z Is Harder To Work With (That Aren’t Actually Gen-Z’s Fault)
The quote below is from a WorkLife article where a bunch of mid-level HR people went out to a fancy dinner in New York and talked about the future of work. "An HR exec characterized Gen-Z this way: "They're kids. They're right out of school. They have their own idea of what work is. They want work-life balance. Mental health is incredibly important to them. I've never seen so many young people with problems.
Do We Think It's Harder For A Wife To Lose A Husband, Or Vice Versa?
A brief investigation into grief. Press enter or click to view image in full size Here's my current situation, if you stumble upon this post and have never read anything else I've written: my dad died about a month ago. I live in Fort Worth, Texas. My mom, who is still alive and thus now what we would call "a widow," lives in New York City, specifically on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.
What If Charlie Kirk Isn't Dead?
Occam's Razor on this case/story would say "single shooter, maybe others knew in advance, single shooter will be prosecuted likely to the fullest extent of the law, no one will really talk about said single shooter within 10 days, there will be some changes in how young conservatives approach America, the divisions will continue." That is what I actually believe is the situation here.
Groomers And Friends?
There is definitely some kind of rise in groomers, and I've covered a few of those cases, including ideas of "marital neglect," but this one I have here is wild-ish. You have two young women. Their names are Abby Faust and Madison Bergmann. They were both fifth-grade teachers at Rivercrest Elementary, which is in Hudson, Wisconsin. Since they were likely part of the "fifth grade team" or "fifth grade pod" (I was once a teacher and know the terms), they were friends outside of school.
There Is A Secondary Subplot To The Charlotte Train Stabbing, Sadly
It's about race too, but not in an enjoyable way. (Is it ever?) If you are unfamiliar with this particular story-of-the-half-moment, consider yourself lucky. Basically a 23 year-old girl from the Ukraine was on a train in Charlotte in August, seemed to do nothing to a black guy sitting behind her, and he stabbed her to death, walked around the train dripping blood, exited the train, supposedly said "I got that white girl," and was later apprehended.
The Beauty, And The Frailty, Of The Airport Bar
It is among the weirdest things in the world to be among people for whom over-consuming at 7am is well-considered - but also, oddly freeing. I took the picture above at the DFW Pappadeaux's last Thursday, before a trip to NYC.
Motherhood, But On YOUR Terms
I'll give you some context and background to start: I was married to someone from 2013 to 2017. We kinda "tried" to have kids, but not really with any effort or planning. We got divorced and that ship sailed. I really did want to be a dad, and eventually I found myself in a new relationship. We got married in 2020. We've been "trying" - this is the most basic white person thing to say, IMHO - for kids for about 4.7 years, including two rounds of IVF. Nothing yet.
Is It Normal For 3/4 Of Your Family To Either Dislike Or Be Indifferent To Ya?
Hope you like that image. I got Gemini to make it for me. I was mostly impressed. So, about three weeks ago I was having dinner at my in-laws, and my mother-in-law was asking me about my family on both sides, in the wake of my dad dying. Fun fact: my in-laws and my parents never met, even though I have been dating/married to their daughter for close to eight years now. A lot of that was not wanting to travel with age, etc. It used to make me sad, but I get it.
I Guess I Should Write About My Abandonment Issues, Yes?
When I would talk about these feelings beforehand in my life, be that to therapists or friends or guys at a bar, I would usually frame it around, "Well, twice before I was nine, my mom went to rehab and was gone the whole summer." Over the years, I have kinda thought maybe that angle was chickenshit - because after I was 9, and I'm 44 now, she didn't drink again and I think she mostly did the best she could.
The First To The Last
Here's something that people - well, at least me - think about in the aftermath of a parent's death. My dad died 18 days ago, and I am trying to be conscious of not writing too much about that whole experience and its aftermath - because I realize that can be a lot to skip over for people, and I'd still like to close a few hundred bucks of Medium earnings in a given month. Plus, I don't want to be Debbie Downer.
The Cooperstown Incident
My dad died 17 days ago, and in the course of almost three weeks, you go through a different slate of emotions. It’s not quite “stages of grief,” although perhaps it’s corollary to that. You do have a “processing” period and a “finality” period, and you also have a very long (still ongoing) “logistical” period where you are trying to resolve stuff and get stupid bills out from under your mom (in my specific case, my mom is alive right now, but lives 1,300 miles away from me).
The Epitome Of Selfishness
If you haven’t seen or heard of this one, consider yourself briefly lucky. There was a couple in New Hampshire. She was 34, he was 48. He was a school psychologist and I believe she worked for a wing chain restaurant. Well, in one of life’s true curveballs, he got an aggressive form of cancer — essentially terminal. In a move that seems to be more and more common, the wife (her name was Emily Long) decided to start a TikTok about the experience.
I Wonder Why It’s This Memory First
I Wonder Why It’s This Memory First This one could go in lots of different directions for me, so let me give you the facts up front. Seems reasonable. • My dad died two weeks ago today. In fact, literally at this moment two weeks ago, my mom was calling me from NYC to ask if I thought it was OK to start reducing his life-supporting services. Have you gotten that call? It’s an interesting one. You think you’re ready for it. You’re not really ready for it.
Husband Tries To Get Away With Off’ing His Wife, Does Every Possible Thing Wrong
Husband Tries To Get Away With Off’ing His Wife, Does Every Possible Thing Wrong Most people seem to be unwise when it comes to “how many ways we are tracked as people these days,” and of course, this makes life a little bit easier for homicide detectives, who often need to do a cursory amount of digital forensic work — say, subpoena Google — to figure out who their lead suspect is. We see this in cases all the time, including Kouri Richins (Utah; that one is still winding its way towards trial).
Good Fatherhood vs. Great Fatherhood
Need to do a little housekeeping at the top of this one. First of all, if you care, that photo above is my dad and his siblings. My dad is in the red shirt, furthest to the left. I think this is maybe 2007 or something. My dad died a week ago Monday. His sister, who was the baby of this threesome, preceded him in death (2013, if I remember). The brother, the oldest, is still alive. He’s actually helping me with a car issue in two Saturdays, God willing.
We Broke Men Into Angry Little Shells Of Their Potential
We Broke Men Into Angry Little Shells Of Their Potential The current flavor of the Internet day as I write this, which will thus be outdated in about 11 hours, is some 24 year-old Mormon woman named Rylie. She lives in Houston and wears crocheted sweaters and probably has some marketing job at Chevron that will be automated by Q2 2026.
The End Of The Boomers Might Be Wilding Out (Or Covered In Poop)
The End Of The Boomers Might Be Wilding Out (Or Covered In Poop) If you are scoring at home, the bouncing ball went like this: • At first, we were concerned about a “boomer blockade,” whereby no Boomers ever retired until they literally couldn’t get through the door of Widgets Inc., and thus no one else could rise up in a company.
Alright, Here’s A Few Lessons From Week 1 With No On-Earth Dad
I’ll keep this quick. I like writing on here, but last week was a no-go for me aside from writing about him the morning after he passed away (last Monday). Here’s that article. After that, I was mostly in a haze of doing shit, trying to figure out cars and insurance and whatnot, periodically meeting up with friends I still have in NYC, maybe over-drinking a little 1.5 times, and helping out my mom. I got back recently to Texas. My mom is still in NYC. There are still some loose ends.
Are People Just More Boring Now? "My Primary Hobby Is Sending TikToks To My Roommate"
Conversations about how no one has hobbies anymore can easily veer into trite territory, especially of the generational vs. generational variety, i.e., “These people don’t have hobbies because all they do is scroll TikTok!” That’s part of the equation, and this pretty decent article about hobbies and their decline opens with a recent college graduate saying that her primary hobby was sending TikToks to her roommates, who were sitting in the same room as her.
Why Do We Never Shame The Male Aspect To Female OnlyFans Creators?
Why Do We Never Shame The Male Aspect To Female OnlyFans Creators? I go to Costco every Sunday. (Sometimes, oh my, I go on Saturdays.) It’s normally a pretty basic place to navigate, as every store ostensibly looks the same and has the same flow, but in the last 12 months, I have noticed one trend at my main Costco. I often see 12- or 13-year-old boys in the carts, on a tablet, playing some game, as their mom pushes them around. I see no problem with this if you’re 4 or 5. 12 or 13? That feels odd.
Kathryn Restelli Also, Ya Know, Could Have Gotten A Divorce…
Kathryn Restelli Also, Ya Know, Could Have Gotten A Divorce… I stole that picture from her Facebook, yes. It’s still active. Ms. Restelli was married to a guy named Matthew. They lived in Temecula, which is mostly considered a “good money” area. The relationship was toxic and it became estranged.
How To Trigger A Certain Class Of Guy
How To Trigger A Certain Class Of Guy I posted that screenshot on LinkedIn over the weekend and then logged off to do various things with friends and acquaintances.
We Need To Find A Way To Mute The Furthest-Left Voices Online
We Need To Find A Way To Mute The Furthest-Left Voices Online I assume you are caught up with the recent Sydney Sweeney mess, but if not, basically what happened is American Eagle did a campaign where they made a classic dad joke (“genes” / “jeans”) and put an attractive young blond woman in it, and chronically-online society spiraled out about “Women can’t be hot anymore?!?!?” and “eugenics” and the like.
Introspection: Why Have I Given So Little Of A Shit About My Career?
Introspection: Why Have I Given So Little Of A Shit About My Career? I’d probably be the first to argue that “conventional success” is complete bullshit, and I think many people both overtly and secretly agree with that, but we all want others to think we’re doing well or better than we really are.
The Au Pair + Sexual Fetish Case In Reston Is Taking Some New Turns
The Au Pair + Sexual Fetish Case In Reston Is Taking Some New Turns If you missed this case or are unawares of it, here’s an article I wrote before. I will give you a little summary too. Let’s ride. This guy Brendan Banfield was married to a woman named Christine. I can already tell you that if you search Google Images for Christine, there are some “very skinny” photos and some “very large” photos, probably post-pregnancy.
Is This A Normal Mother-Daughter Relationship Nowadays?
Obviously the term “normal” in this headline might be semi-triggering, because what exactly is normal? I apologize for that upfront. Here is what I can infer about this situation. There is a young lady named Megan Griffith or Griffiths. She’s living in Florida, but appears to be from Oregon — or, at the very least, her mom is in Oregon. She works in event planning somewhere around Key Largo. One night, she has a couple of drinks and decides to drive. Unwise.
The Duality Of The Broken Man
The Lee case, out of South Carolina, offers the most striking dichotomy of marriage (perhaps). Zoom image will be displayed If you are unfamiliar with this case, I believe it happened in 2017 in South Carolina. What had happened before 2017 is that two young people, Jason Lee and Lindsay (think her maiden name started with a T) Lee, came together and got married. They were both somewhat overweight at the time. At some point, both had jobs with the Lexington County Sheriff’s Office.
Recapturing Boyhood Drives So Much Of The Male Psyche
Men will puff up their chests about adulthood and “provider responsibilities,” and many achieve that — but their actual goal might be different.
When An Era Ends And You Barely Realize It
RIP to my step-grandmother. Will try to make this more broadly relevant than just specific to my life and vague notions of family, but I do need to paint some context up front. Above is Maria, who was my step-grandmother. My mom’s biological mom died 10 years before I was born. My grandfather remarried maybe 2.5 years later. I believe he was with this woman, Maria, longer than my biological grandmother (whose name was Patricia). My grandfather died in 2011.
Observations From An Autistic Adult Education Trip To Medieval Times
You discover life in the odd moments. My wife’s brother, who I believe would be called my “brother-in-law” if I am doing this thing correctly, is autistic. Super great human being, still lives at home, largely non-verbal minus quoting some songs back to you, but very aware of things.
Is Sex The Only Reward For Middle-Aged Men?
Well, I mean, yes and no. As someone that has spent time in the office of a marriage counselor — it didn’t work, we got divorced about a year later actually — I can tell you that it’s a generally good rule when discussing relationships not to use words like “only” and “always,” etc. They are too finite and most relationships are some shade of gray on every topic, so I apologize for using that in the headline. I love some ass-backwards Medium engagement, however, so sue me.
Alright, So Now It’s A Male Loser Epidemic?
It’s hard to keep up. Everything these days seems to be downstream of some TikTok video or trend, and then said video is “re-stitched” by a bunch of people, and somehow the political and cultural ethos is then entered into discussion of that video. That has been the pattern since about 2015 or so, although you can change some of the platforms and arguments. It seems like one of the big issues right now is, essentially, gender resentment — and young men and young women talk past each other about it.
Using Addiction To Get Closer To Someone
It happens; we just don’t talk about it a lot. I will try to commence with a story. When I first came to Fort Worth, to interview for a job that I now haven’t had for a decade, I did the interview, then went to the hotel room and wrote three (3!) blog posts. I did three because the interviews had ended at 2pm — PS that office is now a WeWork, lol — and I didn’t want to start drinking at 2pm. I know myself. Instead, I went out to drink at 4pm.
The Flirtcession
I wouldn’t specifically know a lot about this, no, but the front lines seem to report it quite a bit. I was with someone from 2009 until 2017, then single for about a year, and have been with someone since late 2017/early 2018 again. I don’t know much about “being single” in modern times, which I have been led to believe from every available news source and TikTok analysis video is absolute hell, but I wanted to bring quick attention to another aspect of the whole thing.
The End Of Predictable Progress
Is this where we are? I came to this idea by watching this video at 5am on a weekday as I got ready for work. You could argue I should have been watching a meditation video. Most people who think about or discuss politics probably know who Ezra Klein is. His recent shtick is a book about “abundance,” which sounds good on face but is really just a nod and a wink to higher taxation.
Do I Hate Women?
I decided to do a little introspective journey on this topic. I do OK monetarily here on Medium, and I have a good follower count give or take. I do alright on Substack here and there, but I think I’m down 21 paid subscribers from my peak right now. By and large, I don’t think anyone gives a shit what I say on most topics, although I might drum up a bit more conversation on some. I dunno. I’m kind of a mid-tier writer guy on these platforms, but hopefully a break from the AI slop.
Christina Formella 2.0: Brooke Reinhardt
(DJ Khaled voice) “Another one” — a case out of Minnesota. Christina Formella is a woman out of Downers Grove, Illinois who stands accused of — I believe it’s currently 56 charges involving a minor at the school where she taught. She was also the soccer coach, and I do believe the victim in that case was a soccer player, and that was one of the initial ways they met. That’s been ongoing and getting a lot of attention.
Some Asshole Shot His Three-Week-Old Daughter With A Crossbow
A case out of Broome County in New York. You can get the basic details here, and I will link a video below as well. The guy’s name was Patrick D. Proefriedt. He had, largely unsurprisingly, a history of domestic violence — and I believe at the time, he had a “stay order” from his wife, Megan. They had a daughter named Eleanor who was 17 days old. (Not weeks. Days.) The incident happened in June 2023, but this piece o’ trash was just recently sentenced.
Can We Ever Solve The Jodi Huisentruit Case?
This is an old one from Iowa. Hulu is apparently doing a docuseries on it shortly. There are so many angles to this one, it can make your head spin. Let’s start, then, with the basics. Jodi Huisentruit was a TV anchor in Iowa. She disappeared in June 1995. She had the morning shift and typically woke up around 3am; on the day she went missing, she overslept and woke up at 3:45am when her station called her.
“White-Collar Work Is Daycare For Women.”
But like, is it though? A young woman named Leah Brecheisen in Chicago did one of those videos which I believe are commonly called “day in the life,” but it was basically “Come see me at my big girl job.” Much like “itty bitty titties and a bob,” this video sent a certain class of men back to the old “the reason no one is having kids is because young women have fake jobs and use those to feel superior to men!” argument, which has been common since about COVID, if not before.
The Real Pain In “A Real Pain”
A lot of people seem to think this movie is simply about the Holocaust and how maybe it’s being forgotten. It is, but also a lot more than that. Since October 7, 2024, we’ve had never-ending takes and treatises on being Jewish and what it means to be Jewish and what is OK to believe.
Honestly, Fuck External Validation
Just keep realizing most people don’t think about much outside of their immediate — and have some good experiences. There are all sorts of navel-gazing articles about external validation all over the AI Slop we currently call “the Internet,” including a bunch on this very site. I will do my best not to make it more of the same. I think we can begin with a simple thesis, though: any article that tells you to “eliminate” sources of external validation is full of feces.
I Got Back Into The NBA This Year. Product Ain’t So Bad, Honestly.
A few tweaks. To level-set this discussion, I was born in 1980. I got into the NBA probably around the Pistons-Lakers 1988 Finals. By the early 1990s, I was deeply into it, and my mom used to let me stay up late (east coast) to sometimes watch west coast games. I was big into those Drexler Trail Blazers teams — never won a title, sadly, but should have.
What About The Morphew Case Strikes A Nerve For People?
A true crime gem. If you’ve never heard of this one, here’s an exhaustive timeline to start from. Basically, there’s a husband and wife couple from Indiana. Sometime in 2018, with two older (late high school, early college) daughters, they moved to Colorado and had a nice big home where there was a lot of fashionable and exposed wood. Between 2018 and 2020 in Colorado, it seems like this relationship went off the fucking rails, assuming it had once been that good.
WTF Is A “Chopped Man” Epidemic?
Men are apparently uglier now. Hard to prove, more pointless to debate about. How did we get here on Gender Wars? Uh, yea, this one confused me a little bit. Best I can understand it, this woman above went on (probably) TikTok and said she saw a cute guy in a car, and said guy waved at her, and one hour later, she was still feeling a buzz from it.
There Is A Semi “Simple” Fix To The Infinite Workday, Yes
But most bosses would rather jump off their lightly-used skyscraper than pursue it. That screenshot above is from an Axios article about “the infinite workday,” which I believe is based on a report that Microsoft puts out every year and said report always gets about 10 days of attention and then everyone forgets about it. I wrote something off the 2021 report, which obviously was heavily about COVID. I am currently too lazy to find the link.
Can We Ever Eliminate Racist Hiring Managers?
We’ve gotten better, but we’re not all the way there. Good Adam Karpiak thread yesterday on Twitter (based on a question asked on LinkedIn) about recruiters facing overt racism from clients and hiring managers. Here are three to five true “winners:” (these are all different communications) The core reasons would be: It’s largely always been this way. No one polices it. HR should, but are often castrated in orgs.
Should We Be Dragging Michael Formella This Much?
His wife stands accused of doing some bad stuff with a minor male. He’s sticking by her. Is that so bad? If you are unfamiliar with this case, it’s out of Downers Grove, Illinois. Here is the body cam of a teacher named Christina Formella getting arrested in her driveway a few months back: She was 30 at the time of this arrest. Law enforcement says that when she was 28, she was having a sexual relationship with a 15 year-old at the school she worked at.
Why Are Midwestern Women Now Running Over Their Husbands With Their Cars?
Two such cases of late. I generally believe 2–3 indices of “a thing” can make it border on “trend,” so much like a period in 2023–2024 when it seemed like a few young women in New Mexico were taken to throwing their babies in the trash, we have now identified a new mini-trend whereby women in the Midwest run over their husbands with their cars, killing them.
Loneliness And The Partisan Fringe
Incels, but also more than just that. Mark Manson did a good newsletter this morning (link) on loneliness in modernity, which I’ve covered off on a few times as well: I actually wrote this post right when I was getting divorced three+ years ago, and I once exhorted us to stop ignoring loneliness as a topic.
