West Suburban Medical Center’s woes are not isolated. It could soon be one of at least 18 shuttered hospitals around the nation that once belonged to a trio of private equity-owned hospital systems that went bankrupt: Steward Health Care, Prospect Medical and Pipeline Health. Many of those chains’ surviving facilities . With West Suburban’s closure, all three Chicago-area hospitals once owned by Pipeline Health have now shut down — although its current owner is pushing to fully reopen soon.
