A large kitchen knife was purchased at Dunnes Stores at Merchants Quay and then produced during an attempted robbery of a staff member, it was alleged in court. Donal Burleigh appeared at Cork District Court where the State objected to bail being granted to him, as evidence was given that when questioned he said he wanted to carry out more robberies and to harm staff at other shops.

DNA on golf club found in park matched deceased and one of accused in Cork murder trial

An intact golf club was found by the archway at Doneraile park in the course of last October’s murder investigation and today the jury were told that the head of the golf club matched the DNA of the deceased man and the handle matched the DNA of one of the three accused. Detective Garda Jennifer Doyle was one of the team from the ballistics and forensics section of An Garda Síochána who carried out a crime scene investigation in Doneraile on October 12 2025.

A witness in the Doneraile murder trial described seeing three people coming from the direction of the deceased man’s home and heard the shout, “Barry thought he was smart, hitting a girl. He is laid out now.” There has been evidence of a punch by the deceased man to a young woman’s mouth earlier in the night where it has been variously described as deliberate and accidental.
