City Hall outlines Juneteenth closures, schedule changes

We’re getting details from Athens City Hall on what will be open and operating on tomorrow’s Juneteenth holiday, and what will not be. The Athens-Clarke County Animal Shelter is closed on Wednesday, Athens Transit is not running buses, and the landfIll on Lexington road will be closed. Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services says parks and pools will be open Wednesday.

Area briefs: CCSD halts rentals, Winder man gets appointment from Governor

The Clarke County School District says ongoing construction and facilities updates means a temporary moratorium on school space rentals in Athens. There’s no word on when those School District facilities rentals might resume. There is an afternoon meeting of the Oconee Rivers Greenway Commission, a 4 o’ session at the Athens-Clarke County Park Planning office on Pound Street. Madison County’s Planning and Zoning Board meets this evening, 6 o’clock in Danielsville.

Athens Homeless Coalition names first director

The Athens Homeless Coalition names its first executive director: the job goes to Michael Bien. He’ll head the Coalition that will receive more than $1 million in American Rescue Plan funding as allocated by Athens-Clarke County Commissioners. From Cole Shackleford… The Athens Homeless Coalition is excited to announce Michael Bien, MPH, as its first Executive Director. Michael will be crucial in helping coordinate Athens’s efforts to prevent and end homelessness.
