Inflation as measured by an index followed closely by the Federal Reserve increased more than expected in July while second quarter gross domestic product held steady, the Bureau of Economic Analysis said on Wednesday. The personal consumption expenditures price index rose 0.2% for the month, above forecasts that called for a monthly increase of 0.1%.

The national debt hit a record last week. It won't be getting smaller anytime soon. A digital counter shows the national debt has exceeded $40 trillion in Washington, D.C. on Aug. 19. The national debt passed the $40 trillion mark last week. While the record number is staggering on its face, equally concerning is that the debt more than doubled in just 10 years.
