Political News and Conservative Analysis About Congress, the President, and the Federal Government
With less than six weeks until Election Day, we are hearing misguided calls to ban diesel exports as a quick fix for domestic fuel costs. A ban is the wrong answer to a real problem. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and turmoil in the Middle East continue to display what happens when refining capacity is decimated, shipping lanes are blockaded, and global energy supply chains are rattled. Stay informed.Stay ahead.
Staples: Is Texas still open for business?
The Administrative Law Judges’ recommendation to disregard the demonstrated need for additional transmission infrastructure in West Texas is a radical departure from both facts and the long-established planning processes that built Texas. The need for interconnection and transmission capacity to support America’s most productive oil and natural gas region has been documented for more than a decade through extensive studies, public workshops, stakeholder meetings, and regulatory proceedings.
Protect the Permian, power West Texas
For more than a decade, oil and natural gas operators across the Permian Basin have been sounding the alarm with a stark warning: the electric grid that powers the world's most productive oil and natural gas field is running on a system built for a West Texas of the past. Teeming with reliable energy resources, the Permian Basin is the driving force behind Texas' economy and America's energy security.
Staples: Oil & Gas Results, Not Rhetoric, Drive Progress in Texas
As Texas enters 2026 amid global volatility, persistent inflation pressures, and renewed political debate over how we power our economy, one fact remains clear: progress in Texas is driven by results, not rhetoric. After more than 20 years in public service and over a decade representing Texas’ oil and natural gas industry, I can tell you that talk does not grow jobs, stabilize energy markets, or keep the lights on and houses warm during times of uncertainty. Performance does. Investment does.
Staples: Texas energy is not disconnected from global markets, but it is more resilient.
Texas energy remains productive, reliable and the cornerstone of the Texas economy, and is globally essential.” Hello everyone. I'm Todd Staples. We appreciate you joining us for today's release of TxOGA’s 2025 Energy and Economic Impact Report, which details the extraordinary role oil and natural gas play in under-guarding the Texas economy and securing our energy future.

Staples: Texas a trusted partner in shifting global landscape
Texas is a trusted partner to the world. The Lone Star State not only exports oil, natural gas, and refined products — it exports confidence. While recent U.S.-Israel airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities sparked concern, tensions in the Middle East have temporarily eased. Yet, global energy security remains fragile. Russia has intensified its military aggression in Ukraine, heightening instability across Europe.

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready... The April 17 joint staff report by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) on the January 2025 winter storms presents itself as a comprehensive review of system performance, yet sprinkles in offhanded critique about ERCOT gas-electric coordination.
Staples: Texas oil, gas industry a national asset
The 89th Texas Legislature is kicking into high gear as our elected officials have 140 days to consider thousands of bills and set the state’s budget for the next two years. Thanks in part to history-making performance and record-breaking tax revenue from the Texas oil and natural gas industry, Texas has a $20 billion surplus and is on very sound financial footing as lawmakers get to work for the people of the Lone Star State.

Another view: Increasing road safety is a job for every Texan
“Everybody goes home.” “Nobody gets hurt.” These are familiar mantras that form the core of workplace safety culture. But on the roadways of the Permian Basin in West Texas, where research shows that car accidents are twice as likely to be fatal than in the rest of Texas, that safety standard has been tragically out of reach.

Column: LNG pause hurts Texas' contributions to energy freedom
The Biden Administration’s recent decision to pause the permitting approval process for U.S. liquefied natural gas exports is a major mistake based on inaccurate information that puts American jobs and allies at risk and undermines the global progress made possible through increased use of American natural gas. In their decision in January to pause all pending approvals of new LNG export facilities, the Biden Administration pointed to U.S. LNG exports’ potential to raise domestic energy costs.

The Economist magazine’s Big Mac index was recently released, providing insights into the cost of the classic McDonald’s burger in countries around the world. The index was started in 1986 to provide a quick look at how currencies are trending against one another. The economic concept of purchasing power parity (PPP) indicates that exchange rates change over time to equalize the global price of an identical basket of goods and services.

Staples: Critiquing the State Energy Plan Advisory Committee report
We appreciate the work and effort of the State Energy Plan Advisory Committee but the 7-5 vote demonstrates more deliberation and research are needed. The report failed to look at the energy needs for Texas broadly and seemed to be more narrowly focused on the failures of Winter Storm Uri.
