The Sweet Acoustic Sounds of Time, Wandering, and Firelight by Susan Bush Band
The band consists of Susan Bush on vocals, guitar and ukulele, with Phil Triolo on woodwinds, soprano saxophone, clarinet and bass clarinet. Derek Wright picks guitar and Brad Armstrong plays bass. My first impression of the ensemble was a sense of clarity. The music allowed for the intricacies of the instrumentation and Susan‘s slightly smoky vocals to shine.

Much to see and do around the district Summertime in east-central Illinois is one of the best times of the year for getting out and around the district. I always enjoy getting to the local fairs and festivals, restaurants and coffee shops, and just about anywhere else that you can find a group of people to talk with.

The Porsche Macan crossover SUV has been the brand’s best-selling nameplate globally since 2016.

She was the second DCFS worker to lose her life in recent years, following the death of another caseworker, Pam Knight, under similar circumstances in 2018.
Early wage access – Providing more value to members - CUInsight
In our previous blog on direct deposit, we focused on how its value contributed to record growth in debit volumes, as well as its importance to primacy with members. While Automated Clearing House (ACH) continues to be the primary platform that payroll funds cross, the value a credit union receives from money flowing into an account is applicable to other situations.
Judge rules against school mask mandate, AG fies appeal
Late last week, a Sangamon County judge suspended the statewide school mask mandate but the Illinois Attorney General filed an appeal, meaning that the legal back-and-forth over this issue is not yet concluded. Students are still required to wear masks on school buses because of a separate federal mask mandate for mass transit. After criticizing the ruling, Gov. J.B. Pritzker announced a plan to begin lifting the statewide mask mandate by the end of the month.

National Farm Safety Week in Illinois This week is National Farm Safety Week and the theme for this year is “Farm Safety Yields Real Results.” We rely on our farmers to provide our food supply and also to power the economy in rural Illinois. Construction of Northern Corridor Highway Threatens to Decimate Iconic Mojave Desert Tortoises
The desert possesses a special beauty. In these harsh environs, life must fight to persevere, and the desert deserves special protection. In 1995, 4,500 acres in Washington County were set apart as the Red Cliffs National Conservation Area. To the north is Pine Mountain and Dixie National Forest. Surrounding the area are the communities of Ivins, Saint George, Washington, and Leeds. The area is amongst the fastest growing in the nation.
Guardians Of The Galaxy Star Calls Utah Home
Tom Proctor When I asked Hollywood actor Tom Proctor what he loves about Utah, he simply said, “I can sum that up in one sentence: It’s home.” Tom has a diverse acting resume including such films as Twelve Years a Slave, Django Unchained, The Ballad Of Buster Scruggs, Guardians of the Galaxy, and many more. He was born in Salt Lake City and raised in the Oquirrh Mountains. Tom’s childhood laid the track for the Westerns he would eventually make.
Observations of an American on the Sidelines of a War
We, Americans are polarized people. We like to define ourselves by so many labels and then go to our chosen sides and entrench there. Then we can see the enemy closer and clearer and we can hear the reaffirming rallying cries of our own camp. It’s tribal, and… it’s small-minded. It’s the mentality of a people at war.. but the tragedy is.. we are all Americans, we are not warring tribes.

Zion Brewery opens St. George location, Station 2
Station 2 in St. Geroge. Photo by Tom Bennett Zion Brewery, home of arguably the most epic patio in the world and some damn delicious beer, has expanded into St. George. The brewery and pub are a staple in Springdale. They are continuing to celebrate their history and Southern Utah culture by opening Station 2 in a historic building. The new location is in a renovated fire station which has served the city since 1918. It is this unique building from which the bar draws its name.
Saving Sheep Bridge: A Southern Utah Gem is Threatened
Virgin River in Zion National Park. Photo: Devang Mundhra While visiting a small music festival, I learned about the effort to save Sheep Bridge. In the shadow of Zion National Park, a small trail winds through the vast desert. Below the picturesque town of Virgin lies the 419 acres known as Sheep BridgeBeginning in the 1850’s, shepherds employed a single lane bridge to move sheep over the Virgin River. The unique environment is an oasis to many different types of wildlife.
Take care to avoid conflict of interest when appointing an adjudicator | Lexology
New Zealand
February 20 2020 There is a high threshold for judicially reviewing an adjudicator's determination under the Construction Contracts Act 2002 (CCA). A recent case indicates how, if adjudicators are not careful, the close-knit nature of New Zealand's construction industry may lead to an adjudicator having a conflict of interest and, consequently, having an apparent bias to one party to the adjudication leading to a disqualification of the adjudicator's decision.
Reflecting on the Life of Shirley Robinson
Shirley Tankard Robinson and I worked together running the Martha’s Vineyard Community Services Youth Center for almost a decade. During that time she showed me by example how to transcend those things in life that tend to sour us. She exuded love and kindness. She was fair minded and always willing to give someone the benefit of the doubt. Mostly she had a gift for bringing out the best in people. In thinking about Shirley, I can’t help thinking about her family of origin, the Tankards.
Inspiration for Life
News of Death Every city has a place where the downtrodden congregate. In Salt Lake, Pioneer Park is that place. I would see drug use and violence, but on one spring day I saw something new. A man in a chef toque was meditating under a tree. I saw him there daily. My curiosity grew and one day I sat in silence beside him. After awhile he turned and smiled at me with a sublime gaze. I asked the reason he meditated in the park.
Kanab and Fracking
Small Town Kanab In a small town, change is often unwanted. Kanab, in the heart of Utah’s color country, has long enjoyed fame due to its astounding beauty and small-town charm. Multitudes of Western films were shot amongst the buttes and mesas that point the way to Lake Powell and the Grand Canyon. The town has long been home to the Western Legends Roundup, which features a rodeo and music festival. Kanab is one of the most pet-friendly towns I have visited.
The Colorado City Music Festival blows up!
The Colorado City Music festival For three years now we have brought music to the Utah/Arizona border Community of Short Creek. Historically, the area has been more known for polygamy than it has for music festivals. This year‘s event only sold 230 pre-sale tickets so we were in no way prepared for the awesome rock concert that was about to take place.

Guest columnist: Raise a glass to Mike Bennett - The State Journal
I never thought of working in the bourbon industry. Never say never. The smell of bourbon brings back dormant memories. My dad, Mike Bennett, was the managing editor, chief photographer and darkroom technician of the Kentucky Beverage Journal (KBJ) for 27 years from 1953-1980. Mike loved bourbon and savored the opportunities presented by his work. The KBJ was in conversations at the dinner table and on the streets of Frankfort.
George Charles Nelson III Sings Millennial Love Songs
I’ve known George Charles Nelson III for about four years now. He’s an old school East-Coast kind of guy, a trained fighter actually, but he’s also a soft hearted poetic type. He’s been vegan pretty much for forever. From his little house in Salt Lake City he grows tomatoes, and has two chihuahuas—one is over 20 years old and the other is close to it. By day he works in a mental hospital, by night, most nights, he sings and plays one of his vintage guitars.
J.P. Whipple and His Band, Tycoon Machete
In my travels as a folk singer, I meet all kinds of musicians and artists. I am starting this series to focus on some of Utah’s creative types, to tell their stories and dive into why they create the art they do. Each month I will feature a different Utah musical act. I begin the series with J.P. Whipple and his band, Tycoon Machete. It’s the middle of a fall Friday afternoon when I sit down with a barefoot man in a Salt Lake City bar.
