Alex Dunne hit with grid penalty for next race after crashing with teammate at F2 Australian Grand Prix

The 20-year-old Offaly driver was forced to retire after making contact with Rodin Motorsport teammate Martinius Stenshorne during Sunday’s feature race in Melbourne. Dunne had qualified strongly in third and made an excellent launch from the grid, moving up to second as the field swept through the opening corner. But the race unravelled early for the Irishman. On lap two, Dunne made a move to the inside of Stenshorne at turn 11 and the pair ran side-by-side through to turn 13.

On a punishing, turn-heavy track that claimed almost half the field, the youngest member of Team Ireland clocked a combined time of 1:58.50, completing all four of her races across the Games. At the top end of the leaderboard, it was a masterclass from the USA’s Mikaela Shiffrin, who stormed to gold in 1:39.10 to secure her third Olympic title.

17-year-old Anabelle Zurbay becomes Ireland’s youngest ever Alpine skiing Olympian, finishing 48th in Giant Slalom

Competing on the sport’s biggest stage in Cortina d’Ampezzo, the 17-year-old delivered a composed display in the Women’s Giant Slalom, finishing 48th in a combined time of 2:31.70 against an elite field. Zurbay opened with a first run of 1:12.82 before producing a stronger second descent, clocking 1:18.88 to improve her standing on a demanding course that deteriorated as the race progressed.
