I'm a journalist who's worked for the New York Daily News, The Associated Press and other print and online news outlets in both the U.S. and abroad. Currently I'm a professor of journalism and run the journalism section of the About website, where I've written extensively about issues facing the news business in its transition to digital media.

What was your first job as a journalist?

In school, writing for my HS newspaper. Professionally, working at the Cap Times in Madison, WI.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

yes, in college and at the now-defunct Auckland Star in New Zealand in the mid 1980s.

How is social media changing news?
