Lucknow/UNI: Voting for bypolls to seven Assembly sets in Uttar Pradesh began on Tuesday morning amid Covid-19 protocol and tight security. According to Election Commission officials, voting commenced on a smooth note barring in few booths where technical glitches in the EVMs were reported. In the early hours, the voters were in less numbers at the booths but is likely to pick up as the day progresses.

In Ghosi Assembly seat in Mau district, the Returning Officer rejected the nomination papers filed by Sudhakar Singh, the SP candidate. However, the papers he had filed as an independent were found to be correct.

The candidate, Vijay Rajbhar, is the son of a vegetable vendor. "The organisation has given me a huge responsibility. My father sells vegetables on the footpath near Munshi Pura. I will try my best to fulfil the expectations," an excited Vijay Rajbhar told reporters after his name was announced by the party.
