Skip to content Skip to main navigation Opinion While some brands focus on novelty and clicks, All Or Nothing's Warren Davies argues that long term work that 'works' is still a key part of landing messages that enable behaviour change. April 11, 2023 10:51 by WARREN DAVIES In Kurt Vonnegut’s Cat’s Cradle the [spoiler alert] end of the world is brought about in hilarious circumstances by Dr Felix Hoenikker.

What’s this? OK, Picasso! I like it
There’s a time for talk and sensible consensus building but sometimes you just have to glue your pink bits to a priceless artwork and get arrested. Recently, two rebels from a local cell of Extinction Rebellion glued their hands to the glass over Picasso’s Massacre in Korea at NGV in Melbourne to draw attention to the climate emergency. ‘Nuisances!’ we cried into our gallery programs. ‘Selfish trouble-makers!!’ we tweeted as it made news around the world.

Cannes I get a witness?
I often get asked by clients, “how will we know it works?” While little is certain in life, there’s a very good chance if your sales/users go up with the only difference being sustained effort and investment in creative comms, it’s working. Because we’re an impatient bunch of monkeys though we can’t wait that long and awards have become a proxy for what works.
Advertising is fuel on the fire of the climate emergency
‘Hey Johnny, what are you rebelling against?’ the question goes in The Wild One. ‘Whatta ya got?’ Marlon Brando’s Johnny responds. Scientists are united on climate, our future colleagues are skipping school to demand action on it, even Rupert Murdoch’s media is looking to a carbon neutral future.

Intrepid chief purpose officer on impact, profit and owning mistakes
Warren Davies speaks with Leigh Barnes, chief purpose officer at Intrepid Travel, about story, impact and why being purpose-driven also means owning one’s mistakes. “Owning our mistake, we’ve actually seen sales go up in those regions. By giving a damn and changing what we do.” Tired of the circular, cynical conversation about brand purpose online, I’m leaving the bubble to go a little deeper.
