Wake-active brainstem GABA neurons signal sleep pressure by upregulating AMPA receptors to drive recovery sleep
Keywords sleep homeostasis oral pons sleep rebound brainstem synaptic plasticity sleep deprivation Introduction Both stages of mammalian sleep, non-rapid eye movement sleep (NREMS) and rapid eye movement sleep (REMS), are regulated by homeostatic mechanisms—the longer wakefulness persists, the stronger the urge to sleep becomes, and there is usually then some catching up on lost sleep.1,2 Although classically, the sleep drive is framed as being determined by two distinct processes, process S...

Colorectal Cancer Cells-Derived Exosomal PIK3CA Mutation DNA Promotes Tumor Metastasis by Activating Fibroblast and Affecting Tumor Metastatic Microenvironment - Wang - Advanced Science - Wiley Online Library
1 Introduction Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a major cause of global morbidity and mortality, highlighting the urgent need for improved diagnostic and treatment strategies.[1] Metastasis is a pivotal phase in the advancement of tumors, the substantial challenge in tumor treatment, and the leading cause of death in patients with CRC.[2] The tumor microenvironment (TME) plays a critical role in tumor cell proliferation, epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), and peritumoral microenvironment...
A REM-active basal ganglia circuit that regulates anxiety
Highlights • Neurons in the entopeduncular nucleus/internal globus pallidus are REM active • EPSom neurons regulate REM sleep via the lateral habenula and ventral tegmental area • Reduction in REM sleep through the EP → LHb → VTA circuit increases anxiety Summary Rapid eye movement (REM) sleep has been hypothesized to promote emotional resilience, but any neuronal circuits mediating this have not been identified.
A ventral pallidal-thalamocortical circuit mediates the cognitive control of instrumental action
The ability to extract predictive information from the environment to modify choice between future actions is critical to cognitive control.1,2 In the lab, this integrative process can be studied using the outcome-specific Pavlovian-instrumental transfer (PIT) paradigm, which assesses the influence of Pavlovian predictions on choice between instrumental actions.3 In this paradigm, outcome-specific predictive stimuli bias choice toward actions that earn the outcome predicted by the stimuli.4,5...

A novel whale optimization smith predictor based on feedforward compensation for controlling wave rotor refrigeration process
Abstract Aiming at the difficulty of temperature control and disturbance rejection control in wave rotor refrigeration process (WRRP), a novel whale optimization two-degree-of-freedom (2DOF) Smith predictor based on feedforward compensation method (WO-2DOFSP-FC) is proposed. Firstly, the obtained test data of the WRRP are used for system identification and the approximate second-order model with time-delay is obtained by using the suboptimal reduction algorithm.
