Machine learning-based risk screening model for depressive symptoms in middle-aged and elderly cardiovascular disease patients
Abstract Cardiovascular disease (CVD) and depression frequently co-occur, yet systematic depression screening remains underutilized in routine cardiac care. This study aimed to develop and compare machine learning algorithms for identifying concurrent depressive symptoms in middle-aged and elderly CVD patients. Data from 2,204 participants aged ≥ 45 years with physician-diagnosed CVD were obtained from the 2018 China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study.
Microbial Invasion and Immunosuppression Drives Adenoma Progression in Early Colorectal Cancer Development
Abstract Several inherited predispositions to colorectal cancer exist, most notably familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP), which typically involves a germline loss-of-function mutation in one APC allele. A second hit in APC or related loci leads to aberrant Wnt signalling, triggering adenoma formation with near-complete penetrance. Yet, substantial variability in disease onset and severity, even among siblings with identical APC germline mutations, implicates environmental modifiers.
SARS-CoV-2 seeds IAPP aggregation and β-cell failure
Abstract The global diabetes incidence has surged post-COVID-19, yet how SARS-CoV-2 drives long-term beta cell (β-cell) failure remains incompletely elucidated. We identified a mechanism whereby SARS-CoV-2 structural proteins directly hijack islet amyloid polypeptide (IAPP) to induce pathogenic amyloid deposition, disrupting insulin granule maturation, trafficking, and secretion in an age-susceptible islet microenvironment.

Full differential spectroscopy for high-stability vapor cell optical frequency reference
Abstract We propose and experimentally demonstrate a spectroscopic method, named full differential spectroscopy, that uses a single laser beam in retroreflected configuration to manipulate atomic dark states in a vapor cell. Conventional Doppler-free spectroscopy often suffers from limited performance due to the Doppler-broaden background.
Performance of a multi-cancer early detection test in the randomized controlled NHS-Galleri trial
Abstract The NHS-Galleri trial was a randomized controlled trial evaluating a multi-cancer early detection (MCED) test added to usual care. We reported elsewhere that the primary endpoint of a reduction in the incidence of stage III/IV cancer diagnoses in the intervention arm versus control arm was not met. Here we report prespecified secondary test performance endpoints among evaluable intervention arm participants across three annual screening rounds.

A satellite telemetry data anomaly detection method integrating wavelet packet transform and diffusion models (WPT-diffusion)
Abstract Satellite telemetry data are high-dimensional, non-stationary time series, yet existing anomaly detection methods are hindered by restrictive distributional assumptions and insufficient capacity to model complex normal behavior manifolds. In particular, prevailing deep learning approaches predominantly exploit time-domain information while neglecting multi-scale frequency characteristics, limiting sensitivity to subtle spectral anomalies.

Blind prediction of slope safety factors using machine learning
Abstract Due to spatial variability in soil properties, the random finite element method (RFEM), which incorporates the random field concept, has been introduced to consider slope uncertainty and reliability. The RFEM requires a quantitative evaluation of a slope failure probability, which is time-consuming, so machine learning techniques can serve as an alternative way to predict slope failure in a timely fashion.
Vocal Complexity Constrains the Dear Enemy Effect: A Comparative Study of Coal Tits and Green‐Backed Tits
1 Introduction In territorial animals, neighbor–stranger discrimination (NSD) is a crucial behavioral strategy that minimizes energy and time expenditure on territory defense, thereby optimizing resource allocation for survival and reproduction (Temeles 1994; Carlson, Healy, and Templeton 2020; Carlson, Kelly, and Couzin 2020).
Novel Foraging Behaviors of an Urban Bird, the Light‐Vented Bulbul (Pycnonotus sinensis)

How Do Oriental Reed Warblers Recognize Cuckoo Eggs?
1 Introduction Avian brood parasitism is a specialized reproductive behavior within avian life history strategies; it refers to the practice where parasitic birds lay their eggs in the nests of host birds during the breeding season, compelling the hosts to incubate and raise the parasitic offspring (Payne 1977; Davies 2000). This allows the parasites to reduce the reproductive costs associated with raising their own young (Payne 1977; Davies 2000; Soler 2014).
Mangrove Habitats in Zhanjiang of South China: A Potentially High‐Risk Environment for Breeding Birds
1 Introduction Predation is one of the main causes of nesting failure (Ricklefs 1969; T. E. Martin 1993) and is an important factor affecting the nesting ecology of birds (T. E. Martin 1993, 1995; Parejo and Avilés 2011). Natural selection has led to the evolution of appropriate breeding strategies in birds to reduce the risk of nest predation and maximize their fitness (T. E. Martin 1998; Lima 2009; Hua et al. 2014; Maisey et al. 2016; Zhang et al. 2020).
