3D confocal imaging reveals quantitative bias in cerebral microhemorrhage counts from standard histology
Abstract Standard histological quantification of cerebral microhemorrhages (CMH), the pathologic substrate of cerebral microbleeds, may systematically undercount lesion burden due to sparse tissue sampling. CMH are visualized using Prussian blue-stained 2D tissue sections. This method provides a snapshot of CMH lesions within a brain but does not capture comprehensive quantification across the entire brain.

Nasopharyngeal carcinoma screening using Epstein–Barr virus Cp methylation triage in two population-based screening cohorts
Abstract Nasopharyngeal carcinoma screening in southern China relies on Epstein–Barr virus serology, but its limited positive predictive value leads to excessive referrals. Here we evaluate a triage approach based on nasopharyngeal swab Epstein–Barr virus C promoter methylation quantification (E-CpMQ) among serology high-risk individuals in two population-based screening cohorts (N = 55,682).

Solid-state eutectic electrolyte via solvation regulation for voltage-elevated and deep-reversible Zn batteries - Nature Communications
Abstract Solid-state electrolytes have the great potential to achieve high-voltage and durable zinc-based batteries, but their effectiveness is limited by inferior ionic conductivity and large interfacial voltage polarization. Here, a nonflammable solid-state eutectic electrolyte is prepared in situ by cross-linking polymerization of ternary eutectic electrolyte with ethoxylated trimethylpropane triacrylate.

Sex-specific cardiac dysfunction in mice with chronic kidney disease
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death among patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Rodent models are widely used to study uremic CVD pathophysiology. We compared cardiac function parameters in male and female animals from 2 established mouse CKD models and examined associations between gut-derived uremic toxins and echocardiogram findings. Male and female adult C57Bl/6J mice were randomly assigned to control, adenine-induced CKD and 5/6 nephrectomy CKD groups.
Development of cerebral microhemorrhages in a mouse model of hypertension - Journal of Neuroinflammation
Aged (17-month-old) C57BL/6J female and male mice (NIA Aged Rodent Colonies) were used for all experiments. Mice were acclimated for one week before experiments and had free access to food and water. All experimental procedures were conducted in accordance with the NIH Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals and were approved by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee at the University of California, Irvine.

I3−/I− Redox Reaction‐mediated Organic Zinc‐Air Batteries with Accelerated Kinetics and Long Shelf Lives
Graphical Abstract I3−/I− redox mediators (RMs) have been introduced in organic Zn-air batteries (ZABs) to solve the sluggish kinetics and short shelf lives issues that have been plaguing ZABs long-lastingly. Based on the chemical oxidation of I3− and catalytic effect of I−, our ZABs show accelerated kinetics and long shelf lives in open air. Abstract The storage time of Zn-air batteries (ZABs) for practical implementation have been neglected long-lastingly.

A randomized study to compare oral potassium binders in the treatment of acute hyperkalemia - BMC Nephrology
The KBindER study (K+ Binders in Emergency Room and hospitalized patients) is the first trial to compare the efficacy of the 3 oral potassium binders (SPS, patiromer and SZC) in a head-to-head fashion, for the treatment of acute hyperkalemia. We propose a pragmatic study design whereby the cation-exchange resin is added on to standard hyperkalemia treatment per discretion of the treating physician.

Methods In this study, we performed an association analysis of the major histocompatibility complex region in 2,786 individuals of Chinese Han ancestry (2,031 controls and 755 patients with MMD), through a widely used HLA imputation method.
MicroRNA Dysregulation in Parkinson’s Disease: A Narrative Review

A three-species microbial consortium for power generation
Design and construction of synthetic microbial consortia is a promising strategy to enhance the performance of bioelectrochemical systems (BESs) and to accelerate practical applications in bioenergy production. According to the design principle of “division-of-labor”, we synthesized a three-species microbial consortium for power generation, consisting of engineered Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis and Shewanella oneidensis. In this consortium, E.
