A Michigan man faces federal charges over threats to kill ICE agents and other law enforcement officers, the U.S. Attorney's office for the Eastern District of Michigan said. Michael Gary Petersen, 41, of Melvindale, faces charges of threatening to assault or murder a law enforcement officer, along with interstate communications involving threats, the district attorney's office said.

3 tornadoes touched down in Michigan's Upper Peninsula this week, NWS says

The National Weather Service in Marquette has confirmed three tornadoes from the July 20 severe weather outbreak in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. That brings the total number of tornadoes so far this year in Michigan to 26. There were 23 confirmed as of the previous count on June 30. Nine of the tornadoes recorded this year occurred during the April 14-15 storms. The additions are as follows: Marquette County – 6:31 p.m. A waterspout moved on shore at Shot Point.

Michigan's cyclosporiasis outbreak grows to more than 8,100 cases

The number of cyclosporiasis cases in Michigan has topped more than 8,000 as health officials continue to track a parasite that can cause diarrhea and nausea after contaminated food is eaten. The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services says there are 8,176 cases in the state, up 512 from 7,664 as of July 23. Michigan has more cases than any other state in the U.S. in the summer of 2026. In addition, 160 Michigan residents have received hospital treatment as of July 23.

My first job in the news business was delivering newspapers! My first job in what became my journalist career was as a copy runner.

I took an electric typewriter to college. Computers were in the library labs, and I did use them. But many of my papers were typed.

How is social media changing news?

News has become "What's happening now?" rather than "What happened yesterday?"
