10 Midlands teams make rankings in final week of regular season
The final week of the regular season has 10 Midlands teams listed in the S.C. Prep Football Media Poll. Both Swansea and North Central returned to the rankings in their respective classifications. The Tigers reentered Class 3A at number 10 after bouncing back from their first loss of the season with a 24-13 win over Fox Creek. Swansea travels to third-ranked Newberry on Friday in a matchup to decide the Region 4-3A title.

James Island QB earns Player of the Week; 7 area teams ranked
Player of the Week James Island quarterback Connor Dantzler: The senior quarterback threw for 318 yards and four touchdowns in a 28-21 win over Ashley Ridge. Dantzler’s touchdown throw with under a minute to play in a tie game proved to be the game-winner as the Trojans improved to 8-1 on the season.

Public meeting for red drum management scheduled this week
The management of red drum is headed for change and the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission and S.C. Department of Natural Resources will offer interested fishermen an opportunity to weigh in at a two-part public meeting this week. ASMFC published its regional red drum stock assessment in 2024 which found that the southern Atlantic red drum population has declined to unsustainable levels and that reductions in harvest are needed to rebuilt the population.

Lexington Moves Up, River Bluff and Gilbert Return to Top 10 Rankings
Posted Tuesday, October 4, 2022 4:06 pm The latest S.C. Prep Football Media Class 5A rankings has insured a Top 10 matchup this week between archrivals Lexington and River Bluff. The Wildcats moved up to fourth in this week’s poll, while the Gators reentered following the 25-14 win over previously ranked and undefeated White Knoll. The Week Seven contest is set for Oct. 7 at Wildcat Stadium. Fellow Region 5-5A member Dutch Fork remained atop Class 5A during its bye week.
