Frailty and Chronic Liver Disease: Susceptibility Marker or Diagnostic Opportunity?
Dear Editor, We read with great interest the nationwide CHARLS analysis by Lei and colleagues [1], which demonstrated a graded association between baseline frailty and both prevalent and incident chronic liver disease (CLD) among middle-aged and older Chinese adults. Particularly notable was the excess risk already observed in pre-frailty.

The Chinese Christian Behind 2,000 Hymns
Lü Xiaomin never received formal music training. But her worship songs have made her a household name in China's churches. At 5 a.m. every day, Lü Xiaomin kneels on the floor in a dimly lit room of an apartment in northern China. She sings a hymn aloud, reads a passage of Scripture, and prays to God. Sometimes, she meets other believers online or in person to read God's Word together.
Status hunt drives U.S. recruitment
Every decade or so, Canadian academics discover — with fresh horror — that a large number of their colleagues come from American universities. Op-eds emerge, declaring either the death of Canadianization or its survival, sprinkled with anecdotes from a few departments. Meanwhile, those of us who have spent years looking into professors’ CVs have been watching this predictable cycle for decades.

Volume measurement of microparticles using SEM photogrammetry and 3‐D reconstruction
INTRODUCTION Understanding the volume of small particles—ranging from a few tenths to tens of micrometers—is crucial across various scientific fields. This need is particularly critical in determining noble gas concentrations, which require knowledge of the mass of the sample particle. Larger particles with a mass greater than hundreds of micrograms can be weighed by a balance.

Bioencapsulation of probiotics with self-assembled DNA capsules for the treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases
Microbial communities that inhabit the gastrointestinal tract, termed gut microbiota, harbor trillions of microbes including bacteria, fungi, archaea, and viruses [1]. The gut microbiota is considered as the “essential organ” of human body because it plays a crucial role in maintaining host health. It is involved in food digestion, essential metabolic processes, pathogen defense, and the regulation of innate and adaptive immunological process [2].

The compounds I which contain scaffold of furan and thioethers have displayed COX-2 inhibition (Fig 1, I) [1c]. Similarly, S-containing organic compounds also have significant influence on the synthsizing bioactive [2] and medicinal compounds [3], particularly used as candidate compounds for tumour, inflammation and Parkinsonism [4].
MCP5, a methyl-accepting chemotaxis protein regulated by both the Hk1-Rrp1 and Rrp2-RpoN-RpoS pathways, is required for the immune evasion of Borrelia burgdorferi
Abstract Borrelia (or Borreliella) burgdorferi, the causative agent of Lyme disease, is a motile and invasive zoonotic pathogen, adept at navigating between its arthropod vector and mammalian host. While motility and chemotaxis are well established as essential for its enzootic cycle, the function of methyl-accepting chemotaxis proteins (MCPs) in the infectious cycle of B. burgdorferi remains unclear. In this study, we demonstrate that MCP5, one of the most abundant MCPs in B.

Magnetic field induced Weyl state in the van der Waals--type antiferromagnet ${\mathrm{GdTe}}_{3}$
GdTe3, a van der Waals–type antiferromagnetic (AFM) metal with high mobility, is gaining a lot of attention for its potential use in high-speed spintronic devices as well as for fundamental physics research. Due to the magnetocrystalline anisotropy of GdTe3, exotic effects are envisaged, when the magnetic configurations interact with an external magnetic field. In this work, a magnetic-field-induced Weyl state in GdTe3 is revealed. In the AFM state, GdTe3 is topologically trivial.

Universal DNA methylation age across mammalian tissues - Nature Aging
|
Abstract Aging, often considered a result of random cellular damage, can be accurately estimated using DNA methylation profiles, the foundation of pan-tissue epigenetic clocks. Here, we demonstrate the development of universal pan-mammalian clocks, using 11,754 methylation arrays from our Mammalian Methylation Consortium, which encompass 59 tissue types across 185 mammalian species. These predictive models estimate mammalian tissue age with high accuracy (r > 0.96).
