A nonlinear controller for AHU systems based on prescribed time control
Abstract This paper develops an adaptive practical prescribed-time controller for simultaneous humidity and temperature regulation of an air handling unit (AHU) subject to bounded non-vanishing disturbances. Under the admissible cooling/dehumidification operating conditions, the Lyapunov analysis shows that the output-tracking errors enter an explicitly bounded residual set no later than \(T=T^{*}-\epsilon <T^{*}\) and remain uniformly ultimately bounded thereafter.
Armed conflict accelerates cropland loss and food insecurity worldwide
Abstract Armed conflict is an escalating threat to global food security yet its impact on cropland dynamics is poorly understood at global scale. Here we combine annual high-resolution cropland maps (2000–2020) with more than 460,000 conflict events across 155 countries to assess how armed conflicts affect cropland loss and food security.
Adjunctive transcranial direct current stimulation after ultrasound-guided injection is associated with improved post-stroke shoulder pain outcomes
Abstract Post-stroke shoulder pain can interfere with upper-limb rehabilitation and daily functioning. This single-center retrospective cohort study evaluated whether initiation of adjunctive transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) within 48 h after ultrasound-guided shoulder injection was associated with greater improvement during inpatient rehabilitation.
Globally and intergenerationally unequal exposure to hourly heat extremes
Abstract Heat extremes are intensifying under climate change, yet these events are traditionally identified using daily temperature metrics, which fail to capture the full dynamics of heat events. Here we present a global assessment of hourly heat extremes (HHEs) in summer, and show that HHEs are emerging worldwide and exhibit marked unequal exposure across regions and generations.
Pangenome-resolved structural variation drives adaptation and trait evolution in cucumber
Abstract Cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) is a global vegetable crop and powerful model for sex determination, fruit development and vascular biology. We present high-quality genome assemblies for 125 cultivated and wild accessions, capturing worldwide genetic diversity. Syntenic gene family analysis characterized 37,897 gene families and revealed haplotype diversity shaped by geographic expansion.
Shale oil sweet spot section evaluation based on oil bearing characteristics in Es3L subsection of Bonan subsag in Jiyang depression
Abstract Shale oil content is commonly evaluated using Rock-Eval pyrolysis S1, but conventional S1 may underestimate total oil content because light hydrocarbons can be lost during storage and heavy hydrocarbons may remain undetected below 300 °C.
Asymmetric temperature responses to soil moisture drought legacies under anthropogenic forcing
Abstract As anthropogenic forcing intensifies, soil moisture droughts have become prevalent across many regions. Soil moisture anomalies can influence near-surface air temperature by modulating both energy and carbon fluxes. However, the annual temperature response to soil moisture anomalies in the year following a soil moisture drought remains unclear.
Pressure-Triggered Dystonia in a 35-Year-Old Woman
A 35-year-old woman presented with a 23-year history of paroxysmal dystonic episodes reproducibly triggered by gentle pressure on the right upper limb. Episodes began at age 12 years and gradually worsened, interfering with daily activities. Attacks occurred 2 to 3 seconds after stimulation, with increased muscle tone and abnormal posturing of the right face and limb, including facial stiffening, arm flexion, and leg extension, lasting about 10 to 15 seconds (Video, segment 1).
Methods for compensating for positioning errors of rotary axes and improving machining accuracy in five-axis computer numerical control machine tools
Abstract Introduction: Five-axis CNC machine tools are essential for high-precision machining of complex curved surfaces, but the positioning errors of their rotary axes are geometrically amplified, severely affecting machining accuracy. Existing studies often focus on isolated technical aspects, lacking systematic and long-term effective solutions.
Subspecialty-specific foundation model for intelligent gastrointestinal pathology
Abstract Gastrointestinal (GI) diseases pose a major clinical burden, yet conventional histopathology suffers from subjectivity and limited reproducibility. While existing computational pathology foundation models are often validated across many subspecialties in “broad but shallow” benchmarks, they rarely demonstrate deep clinical utility in real-world scenarios. To address this, we develop Digepath—a disease-specialized foundation model focused exclusively on high-impact GI pathology.
Hallmarks of the pre-disease state: prevention and control of the pre-disease state, a tipping point between health and disease - Cell Discovery
Complex diseases, including cancers, diabetes, and other chronic diseases, are not caused by individual genes or factors. Instead, they arise from dynamic interactions among multiple genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors. Disease pathogenesis is a prolonged, dynamically evolving process, not a simple binary switch between health and disease.

Reconstructing Coherent Functional Landscape From Multi‐Modal Multi‐Slice Spatial Transcriptomics by a Variational Spatial Gaussian Process
1 Introduction Spatial transcriptomics (ST) technologies enable high-throughput gene expression profiling while preserving spatial context within tissues in situ [1-5]. Recent advances have made it possible to collect multiple parallel 2D sections, laying the foundation for reconstructing and analyzing tissue organization in 3D space [6-8].
GBP2 condensates promote ferroptosis to sensitize anti-PD-L1 immunotherapy in melanoma - Nature Communications
Abstract The mechanisms underlying the limited response to immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) remain unclear. One explanation is that tumors escape cytotoxic T cell killing by disrupting interferon-gamma (IFN-γ) signaling. Here we show that guanylate-binding protein 2 (GBP2), an IFN-γ–inducible molecule, functions as a general amplifier of T cell–mediated cytotoxicity by promoting ferroptosis in melanoma.

A 29‐bp Promoter Deletion in CsCEPR1 Underlies Increased Seed and Fruit Size During Cucumber Domestication
Domestication signifies the beginning of crop breeding and is essential for modern breeding efforts. Seeds play a crucial role in conveying both domestication and evolutionary information. Wild species generally produce small seeds with pronounced dormancy, enabling them to survive in challenging environments. In contrast, modern cultivars feature larger seeds with reduced dormancy, optimising them for agricultural production (Fuller et al. 2014; Wang et al. 2018). Cucumber (Cucumis sativus var.

Revisiting Ego Depletion: Evidence from Multi-Lab Collaborations
Abstract The ego depletion effect posits that initial exertion of self-control impairs subsequent self-regulatory performance. Despite being examined in over 1000 independent studies and cited extensively, recent large-scale studies have questioned its validity. We propose that the replicability of ego depletion may hinge on the intensity of the manipulation.

Rapid flips between warm and cold extremes in a warming world - Nature Communications
Abstract Rapid temperature flips are sudden shifts from extreme warm to cold or vice versa–both challenge humans and ecosystems by leaving a very short time to mitigate two contrasting extremes, but are yet to be understood. Here, we provide a global assessment of rapid temperature flips from 1961 to 2100. Warm-to-cold flips favorably follow wetter and cloudier conditions, while cold-to-warm flips exhibit an opposite feature.

However, significant challenges persist in effectively integrating gene expression with spatial information to elucidate the heterogeneity of biological tissues.
Nonlinear control of AHU system using disturbance observers
Abstract The temperature and humidity control of air handling unit (AHU) systems is investigated in this paper based on disturbance observers. For a class of bounded disturbances with bounded derivative, a control method combining disturbance observers and backstepping is proposed. Nonlinear disturbance observers are used to estimate disturbances. The proposed controller can suppress and attenuate the influence of disturbances on the states of AHU systems.
An autonomous optimal safe prescribed performance tracking control strategy for homogeneous vehicular platoons encountering sudden obstacles
Abstract The optimal autonomous safe prescribed performance tracking control problem is studied for homogeneous vehicular platoon systems (VPSs) encountering sudden obstacles in this paper. It focuses on the situation where obstacles suddenly intrude into the driving lane of a vehicle platoon. A secure boundary protection method (SBPM) is used to design an autonomous safety tracking strategy for emergency obstacle avoidance, which includes the control design after obstacle removal.
