Yoon Kim
Yoon Kim’s Biography
I'm a freelance journalist covering the outdoor industry, specifically gear, technology as it relates to the outdoor industry, B2B dynamics specifically with media, retailers and brands, as well as writing stories about the people behind some of our favorite brands in our space.
I spent almost a decade freelancing for SNEWS before becoming their Tech Editor, then continued as a freelancer when SNEWS became Outside Business Journal. I've also been the Outdoor Editor at Family Handyman while having been published in titles like Gear Junkie, Backpacker, USA Today Travel, and niche publications like US Hanggliding and Paragliding Magazine, Tread Magazine, and Vertical Magazine.
I'm interested in the following types of stories: tradeshow gear coverage, in depth gear stories from brands that are disrupting categories, technology and its impact on the outdoor industry, finance/fundraising topics related to the outdoor industry and personal profiles of the people behind the gear we use. With a finance background, I understand the gear, the people behind it, but also the hard business questions that makes our industry go round.
I'm currently working on a story about my grandparent's textile factory, "White Lamb" which was the first to commercialize fleeced cotton in 1957. Please contact me with interest in this story.
