Optimization of drag reduction performance and energy efficiency enhancement of polyethylene oxide in oil-water two-phase flow using response surface methodology
Abstract Drag reduction (DR) in oil–water two-phase flow by high-molecular-weight polymers offers a promising route to energy-efficient pipeline transport, yet quantitative multi-factor optimization remains underdeveloped. Here, we experimentally investigate the DR performance of polyethylene oxide (PEO, Mw = 1 × 10⁶ g/mol) in a horizontal oil–water flow loop (inner diameter 5 cm, test length 10 m) using a three-factor Box–Behnken response surface methodology design (15 runs).

Van der Waals surface reconstruction for oriented epitaxial growth of two-dimensional metallic oxides
Abstract Hybrid integration of two-dimensional single-crystalline metal oxides, including semiconductors, dielectrics, ferroelectrics and ferromagnetics, with silicon circuits enables functionalities such as spintronics and neuromorphic and quantum computing, forming a key part of the ‘More-than-Moore’ roadmap. However, synthesizing two-dimensional metal oxide single-crystal films has remained challenging.
Why carbon markets need data infrastructure, not just carbon credits: an Asia-Pacific perspective
Carbon markets have expanded rapidly, yet they still lack much of the transparency, comparability and price-discovery infrastructure associated with mature financial markets. Concerns over credit quality remain common, and many financial institutions remain cautious. This challenge is especially significant in Asia-Pacific.
Synthesis of naphthylmethyl 8-hydroxy quinolinium chloride as a novel corrosion inhibitor for low-carbon steel in hydrochloric acid
A new corrosion inhibitor, naphthalenemethyl-8-hydroxyquinolinium chloride, was synthesized and tested on P110 steel in 20% HCl. Weight loss showed over 99.5% efficiency at just 0.2% concentration. Electrochemical data identified it as a mixed-type, predominantly anodic inhibitor, following Langmuir adsorption. Surface analysis (SEM, AFM, and SECM) and molecular dynamics simulation confirmed a compact hydrophobic film forms on the steel, significantly reducing corrosion current.

Comparison of Human Melanoma Single Cell Profiles to Evolutionary Medicine Model Xiphophorus Provides Insights in Disease Control
1 Introduction Despite recent advancements in melanoma therapies and a corresponding decline in melanoma-related mortality, melanoma still remains one of the most lethal cancers, accounting for approximately 75% of skin cancer deaths (Wang et al. 2025; Boutros et al. 2024; Gonzalez et al. 2013; Maio 2012). The five-year survival rate for patients with advanced melanoma stays low, ranging from 34% to 52% (Hamid et al. 2019).
Coherent 2D–3D van der Waals perovskite epitaxial heterostructures
Abstract Precise control and a clear understanding of the interfaces between 2D and 3D perovskites remain limited by structural disorder, interfacial defects and poorly defined growth pathways. Here we report a strategy for coherent van der Waals cross-dimensional epitaxy, in which 3D MASnI3 (MA: methylammonium) single crystals are grown directly on 2D (3T)2SnI4 (3T: tri-thiophenylethylammonium) templates.

The central precocious puberty-associated gene MKRN3 is a tumor suppressor regulating CSDE1 ubiquitination in ovarian cancer
Abstract Earlier age at menarche has long been known to be associated with an increased risk of ovarian cancer (OC). However, the underlying mechanisms are not completely understood. Here, we report a paternally inherited imprinted gene, MKRN3, that is associated with central precocious puberty (CPP) and that plays a tumor suppressive role in OC. We found that genomic MKRN3 mutations are significantly more common in OC patients.
A framework for building a synthetic cell from the SynCell Asia Initiative
|
Building a living cell from scratch requires overcoming a bottleneck that has remained unresolved despite decades of progress: orchestrating the spatiotemporal integration of core functional modules. To tackle this barrier, the SynCell Asia Initiative outlines a strategy for developing core functional modules followed by their systems-level integration through the establishment of a centralized, artificial intelligence (AI)-driven biofoundry.

Real-world evidence for comparative safety of second-line antihyperglycemic agents in older adults with type 2 diabetes
|
Abstract As prescribing of newer antihyperglycemic agents expands, there remains limited comparative safety data for older adults—a population particularly vulnerable to adverse drug events and underrepresented in clinical trials. We conduct a multinational cohort study using nine databases from the U.S. and Europe. Among adults aged ≥65, we compare eighteen safety outcomes across four classes of second-line antihyperglycemic agents.

SIRT3 deacetylates STEAP4 to modulate cuproptosis sensitivity via mitochondrial metabolic reprogramming in HBV-related HCC
Abstract Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection remains a leading etiological driver of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Cuproptosis is a recently defined copper-dependent form of regulated cell death that selectively eliminates mitochondria-dependent cells; whether HBV rewires this vulnerability remains unknown. Here we unveil a novel HBV X protein (HBx)-driven mechanism of cuproptosis evasion.

Giant shot noise in superconductor/ferromagnet junctions with orbital-symmetry- controlled spin-orbit coupling - Nature Communications
Abstract By measuring the shot noise, a consequence of charge quantization, in super-conductor/insulator/ferromagnet (V/MgO/Fe) junctions, we discover a giant increase, orders of magnitude larger than expected. The origin of this giant noise is a peculiar realization of a superconducting proximity effect, where a simple superconductor influences its neighbors. Our measurements reveal largely unexplored implications of orbital-symmetry-controlled proximity effects.
