Resilience and growth are at the heart of a new energy pact signed by 11 governors in the West in an effort to have states collaborate and strengthen the region's power grid. The agreement endorses goals described in the new Western Transmission Expansion Coalition, or WestTEC, which analyzed transmission needs across the region with input from utilities, state and tribal governments and others.

Lowering Utah's legal alcohol limit also lowered the number of driving deaths

Reducing the legal limits for alcohol can lead to a reduction in driving fatalities. That's the finding from a recent study published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine. The analysis looked at how Utah's rules have affected driving safety compared to neighboring states. Utah was the first state in the nation to lower its legal blood alcohol concentration limit back in 2017. The study found that since it went into effect in 2018, there has been a drop in drunk driving fatalities.

Environmentalists say losing the Roadless Rule won't help wildfire mitigation

Environmental groups are questioning an effort by Sen. Mike Lee and other congressmembers to rescind the Roadless Rule, which protects millions of acres of public lands. Wildfire prevention is at the heart of the debate, but environmentalists say it doesn't have to be. The Roadless Area Conservation Rule was enacted during the Clinton administration after nearly two years of public hearings and more than one and a half million comments.
