Alveolar stem cells transdifferentiate to drive bronchiolar regeneration
Abstract The lung consists of two anatomically distinct compartments: the airways and the alveoli. Although airway epithelial stem cells are known to mobilize for alveolar regeneration, whether alveolar cells can reciprocally traverse these anatomical boundaries and contribute to bronchial repair remains unclear1,2,3,4.
Mitochondrial serine catabolism safeguards maintenance of the hematopoietic stem cell pool in homeostasis and injury
Hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs), which are at the helm of the hierarchically organized hematopoietic system, ensure lifelong production of all lineages of blood cells.1 The HSC pool is tightly maintained by both intrinsic and extrinsic factors.2 Among them, the hypoxic niche in which HSCs reside and the hypoxic adaption of HSCs are well known to play dominant roles.3,4 Oxygen is the terminal electron acceptor of the mitochondrial electron transport chain, from which electrons will leak out...

Author Correction: Bipotent transitional liver progenitor cells contribute to liver regeneration - Nature Genetics
Correction to: Nature Genetics https://doi.org/10.1038/s41588-023-01335-9. Published online 13 March 2023. In the version of this article originally published, reference errors that arose during revisions have now been corrected as follows. In the first sentence of the Results subsection “Bipotent TLPCs differentiate into hepatocytes or BECs,” Thakur, 2019 (Hepatology 70, 1360–1376 (2019)) was cited in error and has now been removed.
Bipotent transitional liver progenitor cells contribute to liver regeneration - Nature Genetics
Abstract Following severe liver injury, when hepatocyte-mediated regeneration is impaired, biliary epithelial cells (BECs) can transdifferentiate into functional hepatocytes. However, the subset of BECs with such facultative tissue stem cell potential, as well as the mechanisms enabling transdifferentiation, remains elusive. Here we identify a transitional liver progenitor cell (TLPC), which originates from BECs and differentiates into hepatocytes during regeneration from severe liver injury.

Genetic Fate Mapping of Transient Cell Fate Reveals N-Cadherin Activity and Function in Tumor Metastasis
Highlights • Generation of a genetic system for recording transient cell fate in vivo • Genetic tracing of EMT gene activity during breast-to-lung tumor metastasis • Vimentin is not involved during mammary tumor metastasis in MMTV-PyMT model • N-cadherin is activated and functionally required during tumor metastasis Summary Genetic lineage tracing unravels cell fate and plasticity in development, tissue homeostasis, and diseases.
