BEAUMONT — Ward 1 City Councilman Cory Crenshaw is calling for a review of city policies after a kitten trapped inside a pipe for more than a day was ultimately rescued by a private plumbing company instead of the city. An employee at Stewart Title first turned to Facebook for help after they said repeated calls to the city's 311 system failed to get the kitten rescued. Firefighters have long been associated with rescuing stranded cats.

Six people charged after oyster harvesting investigation

BRAZORIA COUNTY — Texas Game Wardens say six people are facing charges after an investigation into suspected illegal oyster harvesting in Christmas Bay led to the recovery of nine large ice chests and buckets of oysters. Christmas Bay is a protected coastal bay in Brazoria County along the Texas Gulf Coast, about 125 miles west-southwest of Beaumont. According to Texas Game Wardens, wardens observed six people harvesting oysters and transporting them through the marsh to a vehicle on May 30.
