Meteorologist Alex Cordero joined WTXL on August 2014 as a fill-in role before becoming the Weekend Meteorologist for the Storm Team soon after in September.

Alex graduated from the Florida State University in May 2014. He was a team leader for the local FSU student-led weather production "FSU Weather" where he not only helped teach up and coming student meteorologists, but honed in his skills as both a weather caster and a leader.

Today marks 2 years from America's total solar eclipse

Solar eclipses are rare. Total solar eclipses are even rarer. Due to the moon's distance from the Earth, when it aligns with the Sun and Earth to create the eclipse, only a select portion of the planet sees totality. As a result, there can be long periods that can exceed decades before one spot sees a total solar eclipse. Two years ago today, parts of the U.S. were lucky enough to experience this totality. Carolinas Winter 2025-2026 Outlook and What it Means

Earlier in October, the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center released their annual Winter outlook. The Winter period in meteorology is defines as all of December, January, and February. This differs from the more known Astronomical seasons. The difference between the El Niño and La Niña patterns is the temperature anomaly in the equatorial Pacific Ocean. If water temperatures are above average, this is an El Niño. If the water temperatures are cooler than average, it is La Niña.
