The Pentagon revised its initial policy change on Oct. 6 and set an Oct. 14 deadline for journalists to comply. The Fifth Circuit decision ignored decades of precedent to the contrary, including a 1982 case in which the U.S. Supreme Court ruled citizens have a First Amendment right to access information in libraries without discrimination against disfavored viewpoints. Outcomes like this are no longer surprising in Texas, where our First Amendment freedoms have been under attack for years.
