MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - Hero Doughnuts & Buns in downtown Montgomery has shut its doors. The Birmingham-based restaurant opened in the Capital City less than one year ago in May 2025. It was located on North Perry Street just minutes away from the Legacy Museum. A sign taped on the door says, “Hero Diner is now closed. We are grateful for your business and support this last year!” Hero Doughnuts & Buns in downtown Montgomery has shut its doors.

Thursday marks 5 years since death of Alabama native, civil rights leader John Lewis

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - Thursday marks five years since the passing of Alabama native and former U.S. Rep. John Lewis. Lewis was born the son of sharecroppers in Pike Countyin 1940. At age 25, Lewis led hundreds of protesters in the 1965 Bloody Sunday march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma and was beaten by police, suffering a skull fracture. He was first elected to Congress in 1986.

She currently holds four Alabama high school all-time records from her days at UMS-Wright.
