Downtown Selma has received a fresh update around one of its most recognizable landmarks thanks to a newly completed grant project.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Senate passed a sweeping bipartisan bill on Monday that would regulate college sports, an attempt to end “chaos” in an industry that has been upended by skyrocketing athlete payments and near-unrestricted transfers between schools. The overwhelming 77-22 vote to pass the legislation is the strongest effort yet by Congress to set national regulations governing payments to college athletes for their name, image and likeness and how often they can transfer.

(CNN) - Inventia Healthcare Limited, based in India, has recalled more than 25,000 bottles of medication. That number combines recalls issued in early June and September. The Food and Drug Administration says the chlorthalidone tablets failed dissolution specifications. That can affect how well and how quickly the active ingredient is absorbed in the body. The FDA says the recall applies to 25-milligram tablets sold in 100- and 1,000-tablet bottles with an expiration date of April 2027.

WACO, Texas (KWTX/Gray News) — A former Texas high school teacher who had sexual encounters with two teenage boys was placed on deferred probation Friday. Judge Thomas West of the 19th State District Court approved a plea agreement between Shelby Dawn Lashombe and the McLennan County District Attorney’s Office. The district attorney recommended that West place Lashombe on deferred probation for six years and fine her $1,000.

(WVLT/Gray News) - Tennessee Governor Bill Lee announced on Monday that he does not plan to intervene in the execution of Christa Gail Pike, which is slated for later this week. “After deliberate consideration of Christa Gail Pike’s request for clemency, and after a thorough review of the case, I am upholding the sentence of the State of Tennessee and do not plan to intervene,” Lee said.

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (WPVI) - The FBI and Philadelphia police returned Monday to search the home of Eugene and R.C. Horsch in connection with a group of missing women. The search follows an earlier search that uncovered more than one million digital files from hard drives inside the home. Those files allegedly included videos linked to R.C. Horsch, who died last year. He was known for making violent pornography. Police said at least five women in the videos appeared unconscious or possibly dead.

(AP) - A Utah judge on Monday ordered a 71-year-old man who spent decades on death row for a 1985 killing to be released on bail, despite objections from the victim’s family, after prosecutors said newly analyzed DNA evidence did not match him. Douglas Stewart Carter was sentenced to death that same year after a jury found him guilty of murdering Eva Olesen, an aunt of the Provo police chief at the time. The state Supreme Court ordered a new trial last year, citing misconduct by investigators.
