Fishing helps children develop environmental stewardship, fosters family ties and memories, and encourages relaxation, confidence and patience. Anyone can teach their younger family members or friends to fish, just keep it fun and simple. Nature and the children will take care of the rest with their open mind, a beginners’ mind. A year ago, when my grandnephew Finn Pegg was 14, I took him on a weeklong fishing trip to Kodiak, Alaska. He was already quite a fisherman.
