Tucker City Council approves first tax increase since 2023

TUCKER, Ga. –  The Tucker City Council voted on Monday night to keep the city’s property tax rate the same for the coming year, at 2.036 mills. Because property values have increased, the city anticipates receiving $339,407 in additional revenue. It’s the first time since 2023 that the city has not adopted a rollback millage rate to offset a property tax increase. The DeKalb County tax assessor’s office determines if a Tucker property value has increased.

Tucker City Council approves budget during ‘brutal’ year

TUCKER, Ga. – The Tucker City Council on Monday approved its $49 million budget for fiscal year 2027, dipping into savings to make up for expired federal funding. Fiscal year 2027 starts in three weeks, July 1, 2026, and runs to June 30, 2027. In order to balance the budget the city will have to withdraw $1.7 million from its savings. The savings account will still have enough left in it to meet its legal obligations, city officials said.

Tucker City Council has reservations about camera program

TUCKER, Ga. — Tucker City Council members tapped the brakes on a contract for high-tech policing cameras amid concerns about data control. There were no formal votes on policies at the May 26 work session, but the mayor and staff gauged the council members’ attitudes with informal polls and discussion. Tucker city staff spent two years, from 2023 to October 2025, testing a system of public lights that could also serve as security cameras and public Wi-Fi hotspots, dubbed SMART Lights.
