UPDATE 6/27/23 – Timothy Norton was sentenced to life in prison without parole after pleading guilty. Two months ago, James Phelps entered an Alford plea and was also sentenced to life in prison without parole. The two Dallas County men were accused of killing Cassidy Rainwater in 2021 after she was reported missing in July of that year by her family. Her remains were later found on Phelps’ property.

Law enforcement push for childcare funding

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Local law enforcement leaders are urging state lawmakers to increase funding for early childhood care and education. The funding would allow for upwards of 17,000 more children to have access to care. Springfield Police Chief Paul Williams is one of the people getting behind the movement. He said investing in kids at an early age could be the key to cutting down on crime in the future.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Grant funding continues to help Springfield Police Department officers crack down on drivers not yielding to pedestrians. Wednesday morning, officers stationed themselves at a crosswalk near Sunset St. and Grant Ave. to monitor how people are complying with the law. One officer in plain clothing acts as a pedestrian, a second functions as a spotter and a third is in a patrol vehicle, ready to stop those who do not properly yield to the pedestrian.
