In recent years, artificial intelligence (AI) has transformed the electrocardiogram (ECG) into a powerful diagnostic tool, capable of diagnosing multiple cardiac and noncardiac conditions with high accuracy. One of the most common AI-enhanced ECG (AI-ECG) models is one that diagnoses left ventricular systolic dysfunction (LVSD).1 Although these AI-ECG models have been shown to accurately diagnose LVSD, many of them have been trained and tested primarily on data from high-income countries.

Much will be written about Dr Eugene Braunwald’s contribution to cardiology—a contribution sustained over many decades and one that directly and indirectly shaped the training of cardiologists across the world. He was often described as the father of modern cardiology, and the phrase is no exaggeration.
