Difficult travel continues through weekend

Heavy, wet snow will continue through at least Saturday afternoon, most prevalent in Baraga, Houghton, Keweenaw and Marquette counties. That being said, slippery roads can be expected across all of Upper Michigan. As the snow continues to fall, much of the northwestern U.P. should see at least another 6 inches through Saturday afternoon. The highest terrain areas could approach or exceed another foot of snow. Snow looks to become more scattered lake-effect for Sunday into Monday morning.

Lake-effect snow bands could create hazardous conditions into Saturday morning

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Marquette County until 7 p.m. this evening and for Alger, Luce and Schoolcraft counties until 7 a.m. Saturday.The combination of lake-effect snow and 40 mph wind gusts will lead to the potential for whiteout conditions. Expect widespread blowing snow, significantly reduced visibility and slippery roads, with near-blizzard conditions at times, especially along M-28 between US-41 in Marquette County and M-94 in Alger County.
