Best New Comics of 2025 for Adults
Art by Hayden Sherman | Warrior witch, Daughter of Circe, Princess of Hell. Marrying Greek mythology to blood-and-big-swords 80s manga, Kelly Thompson and Hayden Sherman debut a radical take on Wonder Woman as an underworld outcast risen to save humanity from demons and gods. Translated by Jen Vaughn | Our goofy narrators take us across time and space to explore the foundations of the video game industry. Lesser-known heroes and inventions are spotlighted, and unsung pioneers are given their dues.
Do Admit: The Mitford Sisters and Me
One of modern history’s most flamboyantly dysfunctional families comes to gossipy life in this irresistible biography from Pond (The Customer Is Always Wrong). Born to an aristocratic but insolvent English family in the first decades of the 20th century, the six Mitford sisters grow up sharp-witted, strong-willed, and eccentric.

Talking to My Father’s Ghost: An Almost True Story
Krokus (Loud & Smart) memorializes his recently deceased father with dry humor and affection in this winning graphic narrative. At the funeral—which features a parade of family friends drawn as animals (birds, turtles, bears) with colorful stories about his dad—Alex sees his father’s ghost, who begins to follow him around. Alex is drawn as a raccoon, while his dad is an owl. The two hang out in diners, stroll along the beach, play mini golf, and talk about life and death.
'I would potentially sacrifice my life to strangle you': A Sentiment Against AI Art
During Burning Man in 2022 the CEO of OpenAI, the parent company of ChatGPT, Sam Altman sat down with Android Jones to talk about the future of AI and art in a massive neon-lined yurt. Jones, a self-described "digital alchemist and painter" was tasked with presenting, interviewing and debating Altman as they reclined in plastic lawn chairs center-stage. Sam Altman stood out from the dusty crowd with his unimaginative white t-shirt, lack of snowboarding goggles and two foot goth boots.

Book Review: Five Graphic Novels That Will Supercharge Your Sequential Existence
Penny by Karl Stevens Chronicle Books 152 pp. $19.95 I could gloss this just-released book by saying "The frequent New Yorker cartoonist and longtime sequential artist Karl Stevens provides a biography, equally quotidian and phantasmagorical, of his and his wife's pet cat." But that would be like horking up a hairball that only hints at the rich and fur-infused feast from which such an encapsulation erupted. What Stevens has performed here is, in fact, a sort of miracle.

Ben Passmore’s This Is Tough
Ben Passmore’s story follows a couple on the verge of a breakup during their visit to MoMA. “While she’s listing her critiques of her husband,” Passmore reflects, “it’s clear she’s also describing her feelings about the artwork.” As it turns out, the Philadelphia-based cartoonist was mining his own experiences. “I visited MoMA shortly after ending things with a partner.

A Good Old-Fashioned Screaming Match
What's it like to have your mom charged with murder? In 2009, a yacht was found sinking on its moorings, Sarah Bowles’ step-father was missing and her mother was charged with his murder. There was no body, no murder weapon, no witnesses and no motive. In The Nib’s first serialized work of longform comics journalism, cartoonist Eleri Harris delves into a family’s emotional nightmare and Tasmania’s most controversial murder conviction.
