Why affordable alternatives to the car have never mattered more
Australia's petrol prices have jumped around 50 cents a litre, with the national average now sitting above $2.19 a litre and forecasters warning of further rises. But the fuel crisis is only the sharpest edge of a much larger financial pressure. Owning and running a car in Australia costs the average household roughly $20,000 a year when you factor in purchase, insurance, registration, maintenance and fuel, making it one of the biggest items in the household budget after housing.

Top GPS Trackers for Cars: Adding Security and Peace of Mind
Adding a GPS tracker to your car can significantly enhance your sense of security and provide you with an extra layer of protection in case a thief tries to boost your ride, or if you want to know what someone (i.e., your kid or employee) is doing when they’re using a vehicle. These devices offer real-time tracking, accident alerts, and potential insurance discounts. They’re also effective, as most GPS trackers claim 95 percent accuracy in locating vehicles.
Essential Off-Road Recovery Gear: Stuff to Help Get You Unstuck
Navigating the rugged terrain of the great outdoors is what off-road enthusiasts live for. But even the most seasoned wheelers can encounter tricky and sticky situations and get their vehicles stuck in mud or sand or hung up on rocks. That's when having the right recovery gear can become vitally important. So before you hit the trails, it’s important to know the type of recovery gear you need when you’re tackling the kind of environments that could lead to potential trouble.
Drive-Over Trailer Fenders: Added Functionality for Your Hauler
When your trailer’s wheels need some coverage and you need more versatility, these products can help. For car enthusiasts, off-roaders, and anyone else hauling gear, toys, or even cars, drive-over trailer fenders can help keep your trailer wheels from slinging mud, rain, and debris everywhere, protecting your trailer and everything it carries. Understanding Central Axle Disconnect (CAD) Systems
If you’ve ever wondered what a CAD setup does and if it’s beneficial for 4x4 vehicles, wonder no more. Although it may sound like a complex piece of jargon, a central axle disconnect system, or CAD, is a rather simple concept that has historically played an important role in many 4WD vehicles. CAD systems were designed in large part to help optimize a 4WD vehicle’s performance and efficiency by allowing the vehicle to disconnect the front axle when you drive in two-wheel drive mode.

How to Get More Women on Bikes? Better Biking Infrastructure, Designed by Women
By Lauren Pearson, Monash University and Ben Beck, Monash University — The number of women riding bikes has increased dramatically in cities globally, including a 50% rise in London during the COVID lockdown, and near-equal gender participation in Paris after pop-up bike lanes were put in place. In Australia, however, cycling remains a male dominated and male-designed activity, where men outnumber women by two to one.

Building community resilience
If the last few years have revealed anything, it is that shocks and uncertainty happen – and how well we endure and recover has a great deal to do with our resilience. All too often resilience is seen as an individual quality, a personal toughness. Have a savings account for a rainy day, take time for self-care to build a strong mind and body, take out an insurance policy in case of the worst. But what if… we instead saw resilience as something we share in common?
CAP post-2027: An Integrated Rural and Agricultural Policy
This article first appeared on ARC2020.eu. (Part 2 is posted separately on ARC2020 here.) ARC2020 is a platform for agri-food and rural actors working towards better food, farming, and rural policies for Europe. Rural Europe Takes Action – No more business as usual”, the book published by ARC2020 and Form Synergies in June last year, ended with a mysterious unwritten regulation, the Common Agricultural Policy of the future. Only it is not. It is much broader than that.

Life after Extinction (Rebellion): From raising the alarm to starting a farm
In 2018, one study on climate change broke ranks by integrating a range of sources to conclude that the situation was far worse than the official consensus was letting on. It went so far as to warn about widespread societal collapse. A banker for almost 30 years, it troubled me enough to give up my job and become an activist to raise the alarm. But now, five years on, Professor Bendell’s new paper drills down through the climate crisis to focus on food security and makes me want to start a farm.

3 in 4 people want to ride a bike but are put off by lack of safe lanes Original
Cycling is healthy and sustainable, but only 1.7% of trips in Melbourne are made by bike. Car use has soared since lockdowns were lifted. We surveyed over 4,000 Victorians and found more than three-quarters are interested in riding a bike, but only in infrastructure that separates people from cars (such as off-road paths or protected bike lanes). This proportion is far higher than previously thought, highlighting a huge opportunity to increase bike-riding rates by building separated bike lanes.

It's been called a 'nanny state' policy, but 30kph zones could be the key to more liveable cities
Five Australian states and territories are trialling or planning 30 kilometres per hour speed limits and zones. However, some people question if 30kph speed limits are actually urgent and necessary, or are instead a so-called 'nanny state' policy or revenue-raising activity. Low-speed streets are about much more than road safety and increasing fine revenue. By building safer streets, governments and cities around the world are creating more liveable cities.

Although the teamlancing model has been around for years, it is now becoming more commonplace as the golden standard in today’s gig economy.
