ROTTERDAM, N.Y. (WNYT) – Newly obtained federal documents are revealing new concerns regarding the planned closure of the Schenectady VA clinic. The 69 pages of documents, obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request, show the VA expected to save millions of dollars by closing the location. The VA also says many patients will still be served at the Clifton Park location, which will receive additional staff and services before the Schenectady clinic closes on August 28.

New York State Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie was in the North Country on Wednesday to announce a multimillion-dollar investment in the new Plattsburgh YMCA. Heastie announced that the forthcoming Plattsburgh YMCA on New York Road will receive $4.5 million in state funding. That funding will be used to build a new pool and bring other expansions to what will be a nearly 50,000-square-foot building. Heastie said the funding for the YMCA is a critical need for the local community.
