While the Oscars are only just getting around to (finally) recognizing stunt work, the Emmys have been giving out a variation of an Outstanding Stunt Coordination award for more than two decades. This year, Filipino American stunt coordinator Victor Paguia nabbed his first-ever nomination after years of hard work in the business. With more than 100 credits to his name, Paguia began his career as a stunt performer on I Am Legend (2007). From there, he was everywhere.

With her directorial debut, The Wrong Girls, Meyer looks at the landscape of buddy comedies — specifically stoner buddy comedies — and asks: “Where are all the women?” Rather than waiting around for someone to pick up the bong, she jumped at it herself to zany, high-concept results.

Parasite, interstellar, titanic, whiplash, persona, trainspotting—all lower-case real words, and yet. Your mind, if you like movies, goes immediately to that indelible image, that undeniable needle drop.
