Human genetics implicates a BACH2–NRF2 axis in fetal haemoglobin activation
Abstract Human genetic studies have identified key regulators of fetal haemoglobin (HbF) expression, including BCL11A, resulting in therapeutic advances1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8. Yet the mechanisms by which HbF expression is activated remain incompletely understood9. Here we conduct a large multi-ancestry genome-wide association study of HbF levels in 28,279 individuals that identifies 91 conditionally independent associations across 12 genomic regions.

Neonatal outcomes following maternal red cell transfusions prior to or at delivery - Journal of Perinatology
Anemia affects up to one-third of pregnant women and has been associated with adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes [1, 2]. However, little is known about the impact of maternal red cell (RBC) transfusions. The objective of this study was to evaluate the association of maternal transfusions in the 7 days prior to or at delivery with neonatal outcomes, taking maternal anemia into consideration.

Transfusion‐transmissible coinfections among US blood donors
Background Transfusion-transmissible infection (TTI) prevalence among US blood donors has been widely documented. Here we estimate the prevalence of donors presenting with ≥2 TTIs (multiple infections past or present referred to as coinfections) and describe their demographics and associations. Methods Data from the Transfusion-Transmissible Infections Monitoring System were compiled for October 2020–September 2023 (3 years).
Neighborhood ethnic density and disparities in proximal blood donation opportunities
Background Despite being the largest racial/ethnic minority group in the United States, Hispanic/Latinos (H/L) are significantly underrepresented among blood donors. A lack of proximal blood donation opportunities may be one factor contributing to these disparities. However, few studies have investigated this possibility.
International review of blood donation nucleic acid amplification testing
Over the past decade, there has been increased adoption of nucleic acid amplification testing (NAT) to screen donations for transfusion-transmitted viruses. Globally, over 3100 NAT-positive donations were detected as NAT yield or solely by NAT in 2019 and over 22,000 since the introduction of NAT. NAT contributes to improving global blood safety. INTRODUCTION Nucleic acid amplification testing (NAT) detects targeted nucleic acid sequences in a sample with high sensitivity and specificity.
I shop for my family of 3 at Aldi on a $500 monthly budget. Here are my 10 favorite things to get there.
I cook and prepare lots of meals for my family and I often shop for ingredients at Aldi. I stick to a budget of $500 a month and focus on buying quality products, like the Atlantic salmon. Mama Cozzi's Texas toast and the Breakfast Best pitas fill in the gaps when there's no time to cook. I love making delicious, satisfying meals for my family and Aldi's prices make it possible to buy all of the ingredients I need.

Aberrant activation of TCL1A promotes stem cell expansion in clonal haematopoiesis - Nature
|
Abstract Mutations in a diverse set of driver genes increase the fitness of haematopoietic stem cells (HSCs), leading to clonal haematopoiesis1. These lesions are precursors for blood cancers2,3,4,5,6, but the basis of their fitness advantage remains largely unknown, partly owing to a paucity of large cohorts in which the clonal expansion rate has been assessed by longitudinal sampling.

See Illinois' Jayden Epps score by throwing ball of Ohio State player's back
Illinois Fighting Illini guard Jayden Epps got creative with an inbounds pass during the second half of Tuesday's game against Ohio State. Epps grabbed the ball after it went off the OSU player and put it in for a left-handed layup. He scored with 8:13 left in the second half to put Illinois up 60-47 vs. Ohio State. "Oh look at this," ESPN's Brian Custer said as the play happened. "Epps the freshman hit him with the banana in the tailpipe.

Comparison of the demographic and social profile of blood donors and nondonors in Brazil
Population‐based studies on blood donation prevalence and its association with sociodemographic and behavioural factors are scarce, but remain the best approach to assess correlates of donation, including those which could be the target for donor recruitment campaigns. This study describes the population of primary healthcare users from the public system in a medium‐sized Brazilian municipality to investigate the association of blood donation practice with other sociodemographic factors.
