Investigation of Possible Link between Interferon-α and Lyme Disease
Cite This Article To the Editor: We were intrigued by Hernandez et al.’s recent important study linking persistent subjective symptoms after Lyme neuroborreliosis in Europe with increased interferon (IFN) α levels in blood (1). Their findings align with our earlier study in the United States, which showed an association between persistent objective neurocognitive deficits, despite antibiotic treatment for Lyme disease, and elevated blood IFN-α activity (2).

Brian Fallon on Christmas Music and Faith in 'Night Divine'
If you think performing Christmas music and church music – those hit hymns and classic carols – is easy, Brian Fallon will tell you otherwise. Fallon is best known for his solo career as a vivid storyteller, singer-songwriter, and fronting the criminally underappreciated rock band the Gaslight Anthem.
Christianity Today’s 2021 Christmas Albums Roundup
Last year at this time, my family was weighing decisions about whether to have Christmas gatherings. This year, we started celebrating earlier than usual, like we’re making up for lost holiday cheer. We have already decorated Christmas cookies and put the tree up before Thanksgiving. My Christmas 2021 playlist has been in the works since mid-October. Perhaps, like me, you have an annual Christmas playlist that is populated almost entirely with nostalgic favorites.

Trump's Supreme Court Shortlist Is a Gift to Democrats
Trump has blown Republicans' political cover by yet again saying the quiet part out loud.
Trump's Supreme Court list includes Tom Cotton and Ted Cruz. In 2020, this may backfire. Original
On Wednesday, President Donald Trump announced he would expand his Supreme Court shortlist to include 20 additional far-right lawyers — including several GOP politicians. It felt a lot like a replay of his winning strategy from four years ago. But if his shortlist release was a masterstroke in 2016, this time around, it feels more like a display of Trump’s political weakness. The timing of announcement, and the list’s inclusion of polarizing figures such as Sen.
Biden Must Prioritize the Courts if Elected
By Brian Fallon and Christopher Kang If elected, Joe Biden will inherit a judiciary in crisis. Republicans have worked for decades to stack the courts with right-wing ideologues dedicated to enacting a radical anti-worker, anti-woman, anti-LGBTQ+, anti-civil rights, and pro-Republican Party agenda. Trump and McConnell have perfected that project, filling our courts with overwhelmingly young, white, male, and far-right judges with alarming speed.
Brian Fallon on Springsteen's Landscape Changing Show
In a time when concerts may feel like a distant memory, I find myself thinking of the ones I’ve seen — either in person or on film — that stands out as a reminder to keep me company during the waiting. With that, let’s look back at a career-defining, career-inspiring concert that was arguably undefeated among Gods and humans. I’m talking about the cold, presumably damp, and absolutely electrifying night of Nov. 18, 1975 at Hammersmith Odeon (as it was then called) in London, England.
What Joe Biden Can Learn From Jimmy Carter
Vice President Joe Biden’s campaign has floated that he envisions a transformational presidency on the scale of Franklin Roosevelt’s. So far, there is no indication that Biden’s plans will call for expanding the Supreme Court, as FDR famously proposed in 1937, but he can still leave a lasting imprint on the judicial branch. For proof, he need only look to the example of a more recent Democratic president: Jimmy Carter.

NAFTA survives
NAFTA SURVIVES — Today was not a real deadline for a new NAFTA deal, as Mexico’s incoming leftist president Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador had said he would accept the text negotiated by outgoing leader Enrique Pena Nieto. But the White House treated it as a deadline anyway and managed to hammer out a deal with Canada late Sunday that at first blush sounds a lot like what the Canadians had already agreed to as part of the Trans Pacific Partnership, with the Trump administration shelved.
Why the FBI Should Investigate 'Boofing'
As the Federal Bureau of Investigation reopens its background check investigation into Brett Kavanaugh, the scope of its review must go beyond the serious allegations of sexual assault made by Christine Blasey Ford and Debbie Ramirez. For its investigation into Kavanaugh to be comprehensive, the FBI must also get to the bottom of what “boofing” means. The term was one of several, raunchy references in Kavanaugh’s high school yearbook.

Demand Justice: Saving courts from Donald Trump
Unlike Judicial Crisis Network, we do not rely so much on a single funder: Opposing view One reason the far-right fringe of the Republican Party is on the cusp of completing a takeover of the Supreme Court is because conservative groups’ spending totally overwhelms the other side in every nomination fight. When President Donald Trump chose Neil Gorsuch in 2017 to fill a Supreme Court vacancy, Democratic-aligned groups were outspent nearly 20 to 1, according to one estimate.

Hillary Clinton's alt-right warnings prove apt
The bombshell emails exposing Donald Trump Jr.’s meetings with Russian officials are proving Hillary Clinton's campaign right about the extent of foreign meddling in the 2016 presidential election. Yet the Russians weren’t the only bad actors whose support for Trump sparked a prophetic warning from Clinton last year. Clinton also sounded an alarm about a threat whose origins were wholly domestic: right-wing, nationalist groups that were emboldened by Trump’s rise.

Why Trump’s Firing of Sally Yates Should Worry You
Amid the furor over Donald Trump’s firing of Acting Attorney General Sally Yates for refusing to defend his executive order on immigration, Trump supporters have sought to contain the fallout by suggesting Yates was just an accidental placeholder and her decision was simply an act of political protest. They are wrong on both counts. In truth, Yates’ ouster should be cause for alarm to anyone who values the Justice Department’s reputation for independence.
